आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

आज्ञा कीर्तिः पालनं ब्राह्मणानां दानं भोगो मित्रसंरक्षणं च  |
येषामेते षड्गुणाः न प्रुवृत्ताः कोSर्थस्तेषां पार्थिवोपाश्र्येण   ||
                                                        भर्तृहरि (नीति शतक )


भावार्थ -    अपने  कर्मचारियों को आज्ञा देने की क्षमता, कीर्ति
(प्रसिद्धि), ब्राह्मणों  के प्रति  सेवा की भावना, दानी , अर्जित
धन के सदुपयोग की क्षमता, तथा अपने मित्रों की रक्षा के लिये
सदैव तत्परता ,ये छः गुण जिस व्यक्ति में नहीं होते हैं तो ऐसे
व्यक्ति का राजा की सेवा में रहने की क्या उपयोगिता होगी ?

(उपर्युक्त सुभाषित में एक राजा (शासक ) के अधीनस्थ प्रमुख
कर्मचारियों के लिये आवश्यक  गुणों का वर्णन किया गया है | )

Agyaa keertih paalanam brahmanaanaam
Daanam bhogo  mitra smrakshanam cha.
Yeshaamete shadgunaah na pruvruttaah .
Korthasteshaam paarthivopaashryena.

Agyaa =(the power of )giving orders.    Keertih = fame.
Paalanam = taaking care.   Brahmanaanaam = of learned
Brahmins.    Daanam = charity.   Bhogo = enjoying the
the earned wealth.    Mitra = friends.   Smrakshanam
protection of.   Yeshaamete=yeshaam+ ete.  Yeshaam =
whome.   Ete = these.    Shadgunaah = six virtues.
Na - not.   Pruvruttaah =  present.   Korthasteshaam =
ko +arthh +teshaam.   Ko = what    Arthh = meaning,
purpose.    Teshaam = their.   Paarthivopaashrayena =
paarthiva +upaashryene.    Paarthiva = fit for the King.
Upaashryena = service.

i.e.    If six qualities, namely (i) power of giving orders ,
(ii) fame , (iii)  taking good care of learned Brahmins ,
(iv) Charity , (v) capacity of enjoying the wealth , and
(vi) giving  protection to his friends , are not present in a
person  serving  a king,  then what  is  the  sense  in  his
remaining in the service of the King ?

(Through this subhashita the author has described the main
qualifications of the senior officials of a King (ruler) .)
