सर्वस्यौषधमस्ति शास्त्रविहितं मूर्खस्य नास्त्यौषधम् ||
- भर्तृहरि (नीति शतक)
भावार्थ - एक आग जल के द्वारा बुझाई जा सकती है तथा सूर्य के ताप
से एक छतरी द्वारा बचाव किया जा सकता है | एक मदमस्त गजराज को एक
तीक्ष्ण अंकुश की सहायता से वश में किया जा सकता है , तथा गायों और
गधों को एक डन्डे से वश में किया जा सकता है | विभिन्न प्रकार के रोगों का
उपचार औषधियों के द्वारा किया जा सकता है तथा दिव्य मन्त्रों के उच्चारण
द्वारा विष का प्रभाव भी दूर किया जा सकता है || अर्थात सभी प्रकार के कष्टों
को दूर करने के लिये हमारे शास्त्रों में कुछ न कुछ विधान है , परन्तु एक मूर्ख
व्यक्ति को विद्वान बनाने के लिये कोई भी औषधि उपलब्ध नहीं है |

Hutabhuk = a raging fire, Chaatrena = by an umbrella. Sooryaatapo =
Soorya + aatapo. Soorya = the Sun. Aatapo = heat . Naagendro = a
big Elephant. Nishita = a pointed. Ankushena = a sharply pointed
tool used to control an elephant. Samado = drunken, ruttish. Dandena=
by punishment, with the help of a stick. Go = cows . Gardabhau =
donkeys. Vyaadhih = a disease. Bheshaja= medicine. Sangrahashcha =
a collection of . Vividhaih = various. Mantra = a sacred group of words
in Sanskrit which on being uttered is supposed to have curative effect.

can protect from the scorching heat of the Sun. A drunk big elephant can
be brought under control by its handler with the help of a sharp 'Ankush' ,
cows and donkeys can be controlled by punishing them with .a stick , and
a disease can be cured by use of a number of medicines. The ill- effect of
poison can be cured by reciting sacred 'Mantras',and even for various other
diseases medicines are available , but there no remedy for a foolish person.
