आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita .

भद्रं  भद्रमिति  ब्रूयाद्भद्रमित्येव  वा  वदेत्  |
शुष्कवैरं  विवादं च  न कुर्यात्केनचित्सह    |
                                   - मनुस्मृति (४/१३९ )
भावार्थ -   मनुष्य के लिये यही उचित है कि वह सर्वदा शुभ
बातें  ही  कहे और यदि किसी कारणवश अशुभ बात कहनी
ही पडे तो शिष्ट शब्दों का ही प्रयोग करे तथा किसी व्यक्ति
से बिना किसी कारण के वैर या विरोध भी नहीं करे |

(आजकल प्रायः यह्  देखा  है कि लोग (विशेषतः राजनीतिक
दलों के प्रवक्ता ) बिना सोचे समझे अत्यन्त कटु भाषा में
अनर्गल बातें करते हैं और वक्तव्य देते हैं और बाद में विवाद
उत्पन्न होने पर यह्  कह कर बच निकलने का असफल प्रयत्न
करते हैं कि उनका ऐसा मन्तव्य नहीं था, या उन्होने ऐसा नहीं
कहा |  यह सुभाषित ऐसी ही स्थिति से बचने का परामर्श देता है |)
 
Bhadram bhadramiti brooyaadbhadramityeva  vaa vadet.
Shushkavairam vivaadam cha na kuryaatkenachitsaha,

Bhadram = pleasant, friendly.   Bhadramiti = bhadram +iti.
Iti = so, thus.   Brooyaadbhadramityeva = brooyaat+ bhadram
+ iti+ eva.     Brooyaat = say, speak.    Eva = thus, really.
Vaa = is, or.    Vadet = speak.     Shushkavaira =groundless
enmity.   Vivaadam = dispute, quarrel.    Cha = and.  Na = not.
Kuryaatkenachitsaha = kuryaat + kenachit + saha.   Kuryaat=
do.   Kenachit = some body.    Saha = with.

i.e.          People should ensure that they always speak with each
other in a friendly way by using polite and pleasing words. If per
chance  they have  to say something  harsh and unpleasant, they
should still ensure that they express their thoughts in  a polite way.

(Now a days it  is very common among the people , particularly the
politicians, to use very harsh and offencive language while speaking
to others, without thinking about the consequences.    And later on
they have to cut a very sorry figure by saying that they did not mean
to say so or even deny their statement.  This Subhashita is an advice
to such persons.)
