आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

अजातमृतमूर्खेभ्यो  मृताSजातौ  सुतौ  वरौ  |
यतस्तावल्पदुःखाय यावज्जीवं  जडो दहेत्  ||
                    - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (कल्पतरु )

भावार्थ -   भविष्य में होने वाला  या वर्तमान पुत्र (सन्तान)  यदि
मूर्ख (मानसिक और शारीरिक अक्षमता युक्त ) उत्पन्न हो तो यही
श्रेयस्कर है कि वह उत्पन्न ही न हो या उसकी मृत्यु  हो जाय ताकि
कुछ समय के लिये  ही दुःख हो , अन्यथा  ऐसी जड संतान जब तक
जीवित रहेगी वह दुःख और संताप ही देगी |

इस में मन्दबुद्धि या शारीरिक विकलांगता वाले बच्चों की समस्या
का चित्रण किया गया है |  संस्कृत भाषा में पुत्र का अर्थ संतान भी
होता है |अतः उसे इसी प्रकार समझा जाय | )

Ajaatmrutamoorkhebhyo  mrutaajaatau sutau varau.
Yatastaavalpaduhkhaaya  yaavajjeevam jado dahet.

Ajaata = unborn.      Mruta = dead.       Moorkhebhyoh =
stupid persons, idiots.    Mrutaajaatau = mrutaa +ajaatau.
Sutau = sons.    Varau = at best.  Yatastaavalpaduhkaaya=a
Yatah + taavat + alpa + duhkhaaya.    Yatah = because.
Taavad = during that time.   Alpa =  little.   Duhkhaaya=
sorrow, miseries.    Jado = an idiot. a physically and mentally
handicapped child.    Dahet= will cause distress or grief.

i.e.    If an unborn or existing child is  mentally and physically
handicapped it is preferable that he/she should not be born or
be dead if born,  because in such a case the grief will be for a
short period .  Otherwise , such a  child will cause distress  and
grief  until such time he/she remains alive.

(The above Subhashita deals with the problem of  mentally and
physically handicapped children  and says that it would be better
if such children be not born or die early.)
