आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

विश्वाSभिरामगुणगौरवगुम्फितानां
रोषोSपि  निर्मलधियां रमणीय  एव    |
लोकप्रियैः  परिमलैः परिपूरितस्य
काश्मीरजस्य कटुतापि नितान्तरम्या ||
            - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (शार्ङ्गधर)

भावार्थ -  सारे विश्व में अपने गुणों और गौरव के कारण
प्रसिद्ध महान और निर्मल हृदय व्यक्तियों का क्रोध भी  उसी
प्रकार   निर्मल और प्रिय होता है जैसा कि  काश्मीर प्रदेश में
उत्पन्न होने वाले  सुगन्धित केसर के स्वाद में कुछ कडुवापान 
होने पर भी वह अत्यन्त  लोकप्रिय है |

('महाजन प्रसंशा' शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत संकलित इस सुभाषित में
सरलहृदय और महान व्यक्तियों के स्वभाव की तुलना काश्मीर में
उत्पन्न विश्वप्रसिद्ध मूल्यवान केसर से की गयी है और उनके क्रोध
की तुलना केसर की कडुवाहट से की गयी है | जिस प्रकार केसर की
कडुवाहट उसकी सुगन्ध  और अन्य गुणों के कारण ग्राह्य हो जाती
है वैसे ही महान व्यक्तियों का क्रोध भी दूसरों के हित की भावना से
से ही किया जाता है | )
 
Vishva-abhiraaama-guna-gaurava-gumphitaanaam.
Roshopi  nirmala-dhiyaam ramaneeya eva.
Lokapriyaih parimalaih paripooritasya.
kashmeerjasya katutaapi nitaant ramyaa,

Vishva = the World.      Abhiraama =pleasant, beautiful.
Guna = virtue, attribute.         Gaurava = saffron , pride.
Gumphitaanaam = strung together. tied.        Roshopi =
rosho + api.    rosho = anger.  Api = even.   Nirmal=pure,
unsullied.   Dhiyaam = mentality, mind.     Ramaneeya=
beautiful, pleasant.   Eva = really.   Lokapriyaih = liked
every where.   Parimalaih = fragrances.   Paripooritasya=
filled with.  Kashmeerajasya =grown in Kashmeera.
Katutaapi = even the bitter taste.   Nitaantya =extremely
Ramyaa = enjoyable, pleasant.

i.e.    The anger of great and virtuous persons famous in this
world is also pure and unsullied and is just like the bitterness
of the saffron grown in Kashmir famous for its fragrance and
other qualities and is extremely enjoyable and pleasant in spite
of this shortcoming.

(In this subhashita noble and virtuous persons have been
compared with Saffron, which is famous for its fragrance and
other qualities in spite of some bitterness in its taste,and is very
popular throughout the world.  As the anger of virtuous persons
is also aimed at betterment of the society it is tolerated just like
the bitterness of the saffron.)
