आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

नोपेक्षा न च दाक्षिण्यं न प्रीतिर्न च सङ्गति |
तथापि  हरते तापं लोकानामुद्यतो  घनः     ||
                    - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (शार्ङ्गधर )

भावार्थ -       बादल न तो अपने प्रति उपेक्षा या दयालुता की 
और न प्रीति या सहयोग की अपेक्षा करते हैं, लेकिन फिर भी
जलवृष्टि के द्वारा ताप (गर्मी) को कम कर जनसामान्य की
सहायता के लिये सदैव तत्पर रहते  हैं |

(यह सुभाषित भी 'मेघान्योक्ति ' का एक उदाहरण है | लाक्षणिक
रूप से इसका भी तात्पर्य यही है कि महान और सज्जन व्यक्ति
बिना किसी मान सम्मान या प्रेम की अपेक्षा के निस्वार्थ भावना
से जनता की सेवा में संलग्न रहते हैं | )

Nopekshaa na cha daakshinyam na preetirna cha sangati.
Tathaapi harate taapam lokaanaam-udyato ghanah.

Nopekshaa = na + upekshaa.     Na = not.     Upekshaa =
negligence, disregard.    Cha = and.    Daakshinyam =
dexterity, kindness.   Preetirna = preetih + na.   Preetih =
friendship.    Sangatih = association with.   Tathaaapi =
even then.    Harate =  subdue, removes.     Taapam =
heat.    lokaanaam = general public.   Udyato=  ready,
eager.    Ghanaah = clouds.

i.e.     Clouds neither expect  any disregard or kindness,  nor
friendship or association of any kind from people, but even
then they are always eager and ready to provide relief to the
people from the scorching heat of summers by bestowing
rain on them.

(This Subhashita is also an allegory about the rain-clouds. The
idea behind it is that noble and righteous persons are engaged
selflessly in the relief work for the benefit of the mankind .)
