आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

पण्डितोSपि  सुशीलोSपि धनार्थी तृणतामियात्  |
यथा  बिसार्थी  हंसोऽपि  मधुपैरपि  वञ्च्यते       ||
                   - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (अच्युतरायजी )

भावार्थ -    एक  धनवान पर कृपण  व्यक्ति विद्वान तथा
सुशील  व्यक्तियों को तिनके के समान तुच्छ समझता है
और जिस प्रकार कमल पुष्प के कोंपलों और नाल को खाने
वाला हंस  भंवरों और मधुमक्खियों को कमल पुष्पों का मधु 
और पराग एकत्रित करने से वञ्चित कर देता है ,वैसे ही उन्हें
भी धन से वञ्चित कर देता है |

(यह  सुभाषित भी 'धनधनियोर्निन्दा'  शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत
संकलित है | इसमें कृपण परन्तु धनवान व्यक्ति की तुलना
एक हंस से तथा विद्वान और सज्जन व्यक्तियों की तुलना
मधुमक्खियों से कर यह  प्रतिपादित किया है कि धनवान
व्यक्ति  सज्जन और विद्वान व्यक्तियों का अनादर करते
हैं और उनके धन कमाने मे बाधा उत्पन्न करते हैं |)

Panditopi susheelopi dhanaarthee trunataamiyat.
Yathaa bisaarthee  hansopi madhupairapi vanchyte.

Panditopi = pandito + api.    Pandito = learned persons.
Api = even.   Susheelopi = susheelo + api.    Susheelo=
amiable, well behaved.     Dhanaarthee = avaricious and
miserly person.    Trunataamiyaat = trunataam + iyaat.
Trnataam =insignificant  like grass.    Iyat = only so much.
Yathaa = for instance, than (for comparison).    Bisaarthee=
seeker of the whole lotus plant or its fibre and shoots.
Hansopi = Hanso+ api.    Hanso = Swan.   Madhupairapi=
Madhupaih + api,    Madhupaih = honey bees.  Vanchyate =
deceives, deprives.

I.e.    An avaricious and miserly person considers learned and
noble persons very insignificant like grass and deprives them
of wealth just  like a Swans who feeds on the shoots and stems
of Lotus plants and deprives the honey bees to collect nectar
and pollen of the lotus flowers.

(This Subhashita is also classified as 'censuring wealth and
wealthy persons'  and uses the simile of honey bees for noble
persons and a swan for avaricious and miser persons.)
