नीतिर्भूमिभुजां नतिर्गुणवतां ह्रीरङ्गनानां रति-
दंपत्योः शिशवो गृहस्थ कविता बुद्धे: प्रसादो गिराम् |
लावण्यं वपुषः श्रुतं सुमनस: शान्तिर्द्विजस्य क्षमा
शक्तस्य द्रविणं गृहाSSश्रमवतां शीलं सतां मण्डनं ||

भावार्थ - एक राजा (वर्तमान संदर्भ मे देश के शासक) की शोभा उसकी
प्रजा के हित की नीतियों के पालन से, गुणवान व्यक्तियों की शोभा उन की
विनम्रता से, सुन्दर स्त्रियों की शोभा उनकी शालीनता से , विवाहित स्त्री-
पुरुष की शोभा उनके आपस में प्रेम से, गृहस्थी की शोभा शिशुओं से,विद्वान
व्यक्तियों की शोभा उनकी काव्य प्रतिभा से, वाणी (बातचीत ) की शोभा सरल
और शालीन भाषा का व्यवहार करने से , शरीर की शोभा सुन्दरता से, सज्जन
व्यक्तियों की शोभा उनके शास्त्र -पुराणों के ज्ञान से , ब्राह्मण की शोभा उसके
शान्त स्वभाव से ,शक्तिशाली व्यक्तियों की शोभा उनकी क्षमा करने की भावना
से, गृहस्थ व्यक्तियों की शोभा धनवान होने से तथा संतों की शोभा उनके सच्चरित्र
होने से होती है |
Neetir-bhoomibhujaam natir-gunavataam hreeranganaam reti-
Dampatyoh shishavo gurhastha kavita budhaih prasaado giraam
Laavanyam vapushah shrutam sumanasah shaantirdvijasya kshmaa,
Shaktasya dravinam gruhaashramavataam sheelam sataam mandanam.
Neeti = political ethics. Bhoom ibhujaam = Kings, rulers. Nati =
humility. Gunavataam =virtuous persons. Ranganaanaam =beautiful
women. Hree = modesty. Rati = love, affection. Dampatyoh =
husband and wife. Shishavo= children. Grahastha = householder.
Kavita = poetry. Budhaih = learned persons. Prasaado =kindness,
clearness in expression. Giraa = speech. Laavanya = charm, grace.
Vapushah = human body. Shrutam = well versed in sacred knowledge.
Sumanasah =wise and noble men. Shaanti = peace of mind. Dvijasya =
of a brahmin. Kshmaa = forgiveness. Shaktasya = a powerful person.
Dravinam = wealth. Gruhaashramvataam = persons living a family life.
Sheelam=character. Sataam = saintly persons. Mandanam =adornment .
i.e. A king (now a days the ruler of a country) is adorned by following
ethical policies for the benefit of the citizens, virtuous persons are adorned
by their humility, beautiful women are adorned by their modesty, a married
couple by the love and affection among them, a household is adorned by the
presence of children , learned persons are adorned by their command over
poetry, way of speaking is adorned by clarity of expression and use of polite
language, human body is adorned by grace and beauty, wise men are adorned
by their knowledge of scriptures, a brahmin is adorned by his peace of mind ,
a powerful person is adorned by his forgiveness, a family is adorned by its
wealth, and saintly persons are adorned by their good moral character.
