आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

आसन्नमेव  नृपतिर्भजते मनुष्यं |

विद्याविहीनमकुलीनम सङ्गतं  वा  |

प्रायेण भूमिपतयः प्रमदालताश्च 

यः पार्श्वतो वसति  तं परिवेष्टयन्ति. ||

                                         -    सुभाषित रत्नाकर (स्फुट)

भावार्थ -    विद्या से विहीन , अकुलीन (नीच) तथा असभ्य  राजा (शासक) 

या भूमिपति (जमींदार )  विलासी और मद्विह्वलित  तन्वङ्गी स्त्रियों से 

से घिरे रहते है |  अतः जो व्यक्ति ऐसे राजाओं के सेवक होते हैं उन्हें इन सब 

के  साथ रह कर ही उनकी सेवा करनी पडती है |

(इस सुभाषित में अयोग्य , विलासी और अकुशल शासकों की  मनोवृत्ति तथा 

उनकी सेवा में कार्यरत सेवकों की व्यथा का वर्णन किया गया है |)

Aasaaanameva nrupatirbhajate manushyam.

Vidyaaviheenamakuleenamasangatam  va.

Praayena bhoomipatayah pramadaalataashcha.

yah paarshvato vasati  tam pariveshtayanti,

Aasannam + eva.    Aasannam =proximate.   Eva = a little.

Nrupatirbhajate = nrupatih + bhajate.    Nrupatih = king.

Bhajate = serve, rever, honour.   Manushyam = people.

Vidya + viheenam+ akuleenam+ asangatam.    Vidya=

knowledge, learning.   Viheen = without.    Akuleenam =

not belonging to an illustrious family.   asangatam = rude,

unbecoming..   Vaa = or.   Praayena = generally. probably.

Bhoomipatayah = kings, land lords.   pramadaalataashcha=

Pramadaa+ lataah +cha.    Pramadaa = a wanton woman;

Lata = a slim woman.   Cha = and.   Yah= Whosoever.

Paarshvato = besides.    Vasati = lives    Tm =them.

Parivesayanti = serve, wait on.

i.e.    Illiterate, incompetent and rude Kings ( also rulers and 

land lords) not born in an illustrious family  generally remain
in the company of  young ,drunken and wanton women. There
-fore, their  attendants too have to serve them by remaining
besides them.

(The above Subhashita besides criticizing the incompetent

Kings and rulers, also hints at the problems faced by their

attendants.)
