आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

अहह चन्डसमीरण दारुणं किमिदमाचरितं  चरितं  त्वया  |
यदिह चातकचञ्चुपुटोदरे  पतति  वारि  तदेव निवारितम्  ||
                                              - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (स्फुट)

भावार्थ  -  आह !   ओ अत्यन्त तेजी से बह्ने वाली वायु , तू चातक 
पक्षी से इस प्रकार का क्रूर आचरण क्यों कर रही है  ? जब भी चातक
अपनी चोंच को खोल कर उसके अन्दर वर्षा के जल को ग्रहण कर
अपनी प्यास बुझाने का प्रयत्न करता है तू उन जल की बूंदों को
उसकी चोंच के अन्दर प्रवेश  ही नहीं करने देती है |

(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित एक  'वाय्वन्योक्ति'  है |  इस में वायु  तथा चातक
पक्षी के माध्यम से यह प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि दुष्ट व्यक्तियों
की प्रवृत्ति अन्य लोगों के द्वारा किये जा रहे कार्यों में अकारण विघ्न
बाधा उत्पन्न करने की होती है |  हमने पिछले कई सुभाषितों में चातक
पक्षी के स्वभाव के बारे में कहा था कि वह केवल 'स्वाति' नक्षत्र में हुई
वृष्टि का ही जल पीता है और यदि उस समय भी तेज बहती हुई वायु
उसे ऐसा न करने दे तो यह क्रूरता की पराकाष्ठा कही जा सकती है |
इसी कारण वायु की भर्त्सना इस सुभाषित में की  गयी है | )

Ahaha chandasameerana  daarunam kimidam-aacharitam
charitam tvayaa.
Yadiha chaataka-chanchu-putodare patati vaari tadeva
nivaaritam.

Ahaha =Aha ! (an interjection). Chanda=cruel.  Sameerana=
wind.   Daarunam =violent, severe.   Kim =why ?   Acharitam=
behaving.    Charitam = deeds.    Tvayaa =  you.      Yadiha=
whenever.   Chaatak = the Chaatak bird.    Chanchuputodare =
in the cavity of the beak.     Patati = falls.       Vaari = water. 
Tadeva= that.    Nivaaritam = hindered, prevented.

i.e.   Aha !   O extremely fast blowing Wind ,  why are you
behaving so cruelly with the Chaatak bird ?  Whenever it tries
to trap the drops of rain in the cavity of its beak, you are not
allowing it to do so by blowing away the drops of rain.

(The above Subhashita is a 'Vaayvanyokti' (allegory using the
wind as a medium) directed towards wicked persons, whose
tendency is to unnecessarily put hindrances in other persons'
work.  We have already said that the Chatak quenches its thirst
only by the rain occurring during a particular celestial position
in the sky. So, preventing it from drinking water at that time is
extremity of cruelty, which has been condemned in this verse.)
