आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

रसालशिखराSSसीना: शतं सन्तु पतत्रिणः  |
तन्मञ्जरीरसाSSमोदबिन्दुरेव  कुहूमुखः ||
                  सुभाषित रत्नाकर (शारङ्गधर )

भावार्थ -  आम्र वृक्ष के शिखरों (ऊंची डालों ) पर विभिन्न
प्रजातियों के सैकडों पक्षी बैठे रहते हैं परन्तु केवल कोकिला
ही आम्रमञ्जरी के रस और सुगन्ध से प्रमुदित हो कर मधुर
स्वर में कुहू कुहू  ध्वनि करती है |

(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित 'कोकिलान्योक्ति ' शीर्षक से संकलित
है | इस में कोयल पक्षी के माध्यम से लाक्षणिक रूप से यही
प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि सहृदय और  गुणवान व्यक्ति
ही अन्य व्यक्तियों के गुणों की सरहाना करते है और अपनी
प्रसन्नता भी व्यक्त करते हैं | )

Rasaalashikharaaseena shatam santu patatrinah,
Tanmajnarirasaamodabindureva  kuhoomukhah.

Rasaala = Mango tree,  Shikharaa _ aaseena.
Shikharaa = on the top.    Aaseenaa = perched.
Shatam = hundred.   Santi = are.   Patatrinah =
birds of various kind.   Tan =  among them.
Manjari = cluster of buds.  Rasa = nectar, juice.
Aamoda =   gladdened by the fragrant smell. 
Binduh = drops   Eva = really.   Kuhoomukhah =
melodious tweet of the cuckoo bird.

i.e.   On the tops of Mango  trees, hundreds of birds
of various types are perched , but only the Cuckoo
bird tweets beautifully and melodiously after enjoying
the nectar and the fragrance of Mango tree laden with
its clusters of flowering buds.

(This Subhasita is also an anyokti (allegory) called
Kokilaanyokti , using the mango tree and the cuckoo
bird as a metaphor.  The underlying idea behind it is
that only noble and virtuous persons appreciate the
qualities in others and express it in a befitting manner.)
