न दुर्जनः साधुदशामुपैति बहुप्रकारैरपि भिक्ष्यमाणः |
आमूलसिक्तः पयसा घृतेन न नम्ब वृक्षो मधुरत्वमेति ||
भावार्थ- जिस प्रकार प्रारम्भ से ही नीम के वृक्ष को दूध्र और घृत (घी) से
सींचने पर भी उसमें मिठास उत्पन्न नहीं हो सकती है उसी प्रकार चाहे कितना
ही प्रयत्न और अनुरोध किया जाय एक दुष्ट व्यक्ति साधु स्वभाव का व्यक्ति
नहीं बन सकता है |
Na durjanah saadhudashaamupaiti bahuprakrairapi bhikshyamaanah,
Aamoolasiktah payasaa ghrutena na nimba vruksho madhuratvameti,
Na = not. Durjanah = a wicked person. Sadhudashaamupaiti =
Daadhu + dashaam + upeti Sadhu = noble Dashaam = condition.
Upeti = come nearer or towards. Bahu+ prakaaraih+ api. Bahu =
many. Prakaaraih = forms types Api = even. Bhikshyamaanah =
entreating, begging. Aamoola= right from the beginning. Siktah =
poured out, wetted with Payasaa = with milk and . Ghrutena =
with Ghee. Nimba = Neem. Vruksho =tree. Madhuratvameti =
madhuratvam + eti. Madhuratvam = sweetness. Eti = acquires.
i.e. Just as in spite of rearing a Neem sapling by watering it with milk
and ghee it does not acquire sweetness (and still tastes bitter) in the same
manner a wicked person also does not become noble and kind in spite of
being entreated in many ways.
