आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

द्यूतं  पुस्तक  वाद्ये  च  नाटकेषु च  सक्तिता |
स्त्रियस्तन्द्रा  च निद्रा  च  विद्याविघ्नकराणि षट्  ||

भावार्थ -       द्यूतक्रीडा (जुआ खेलना) , वाञ्छित विद्या से इतर
अन्य विषयों की पुस्तकों (उपन्यास आदि में ) तथा संगीत वाद्यों
और नाटकों में आसक्ति , स्त्रियों में आलस्य  तथा अति निद्रा का
होना , ये छः अवगुण विद्या प्राप्ति में बाधा उत्पन्न करते हैं |

(वर्तमान संदर्भ में भी फ़िल्मों और उनका संगीत तथा  सम्बन्धित
पत्रिकायें विद्यार्थियों के पठन पाठन में बहुत अधिक बाधा उत्पन्न
करती हैं  जिस  से इस सुभाषित की सार्थकता  सिद्ध होती है |)

Dyootam  pustak vaadye  cha  naatakeshu cha saktitaa.
Striyastandraa  cha nidraa cha  vidya-vighnakaraani shat .

Dyootam = gambling .   Pustaka = book.    Vaadye =
musical instruments    Cha = and.    Natakeshu = plays,
drama.    Saktitaa = addiction towards.    Striyastandraa=
Striyah + tandraa.    Striyah = womens'      Tandraa =
laziness.   Nidraa = sleep.   Vidyaa = knowledge, learning.
Vighnakaaraani = impediments,    Shat = (these) six.

i.e.      Gambling,  addiction of reading books (novels etc
other than the books on the subjects of one's study), playing
musical instruments and  acting in plays, excessive sleep and
laziness among women folk,  all these six  deficiencies  are
big impediments in acquiring knowledge and learning.

(The relevance of this Subhashita can be judged by the addiction
of youth towards films, film music and the related magazines.)
