आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

कामधेनु  गुणा  विद्या  ह्यकाले  फलदायिनी  |
प्रवासे  मातृसदृशी  विद्या  गुप्तं  धनं स्मृतं     ||
                                       - चाणक्य नीति (४/५)

भावार्थ -   किसी व्यक्ति के द्वारा अर्जित  विद्या उसके लिये
पुराणों में वर्णित कामधेनु गाय के समान उसके बुरे समय में
भी उसको इच्छित फल देने वाली होती है तथा विदेश में निवास
करते समय उसकी माता के समान (रक्षक और सहायक) होती है |
इसी लिये तो विद्या को एक गुप्तधन कहा गया है |

Kaamadhenu gunaa  vidyaa hyakaale phaladaayinee.
Pravaase  Maatrusadrushee  vidyaa guptam  dhanam smrutam.

Kaamadhenu = mythical cow that emerged from the ocean
during the course of churning of the ocean by the Gods and
Demons. She is supposed to satisfy all desires.   Gunaa =
virtues.   Vidyaa = knowledge.   Hyakaale = hi + akaale.
Hi = surely.    Akaale = during bad times.   Phaladaayinee=
giving fruitful results.    Pravaase = while residing in foreign
countries.    Maatrusadrushee = like a mother.     Vidyaa =
knowledge.   Guptam = hidden, secret.    Dhanam = wealth.
Smrutam = termed as, declared as.

i.e.   Knowledge acquired by a person is like the mythical cow
Kamadhenu, which gives fruitful results even during bad times
and during stay in a foreign country is (supportive  and helpful)
like one's own mother.That is why it is termed as secret wealth.
