पुष्पे गन्धं तिले तैलं काष्टेSग्निं पयसिघृतं |
इक्षौ गुडं तथा देहे पश्यात्मानं विवेकतः ||
- चाणक्य नीति (७/२१)
भावार्थ - जिस प्रकार पुष्पों में सुगन्ध, तिलों में तैल, लकडी
में अग्नि, दूध में घी तथा ईख (गन्ना) में गुड (मिठास) विद्यमान
हैं पर दिखाई नहीं देते हैं, देखो उसी प्रकार तुम्हारे शरीर में भी विवेक
(भले और बुरे का निर्णय करने की क्षमता ) विद्यमान है |
Pushpe gandham tile tailam kaashtegnim payasighrutam.
Ikshau gudam tathaa dehe pashyaatmaanam vivekatah.
Pushpe = in a flower. Gandham = smell. Tile = sesame.
seeds. Tailam = oil. Kaashte + agnim. Kaashte = in the
wood. Agnim = fire. Payasi - in the milk. Ghrutam =
cream, ghee. Ikshau = sugarcane. Gudam = sugar candy.
Tathaa = accordinly.. Dehe = human body. Pashya = see
Aatmaanam = thyself. Vivekatah = wisdom, prudence.
i.e. Fragrance in flowers, oil in sesame seeds, fire in wood,
cream or ghee in milk, and sugar in sugarcane are hidden , you
should see that in the same manner prudence or wisdom (power
to discriminate between good and bad) is also hidden in human
body.
