तैलाभ्यङ्गे चिताधूमे मैथुने क्षौरकर्मणि |
तावद्भवति चाण्डालो यावत्स्नानं न चाचरेत् ||

भावार्थ - शरीर पर तैल की मालिश करने पर, चिता से उठते
हुए धुंवें से दूषित होने पर , मैथुन करने के बाद तथा सिर के
केशों का मुण्डन या दाढी बनाने के बाद जब तक कोई व्यक्ति
भली प्रकार स्नान नहीं कर लेता है वह एक चाण्डाल के समान
अस्पृश्य ही रहता है |
Tailaabhyange chitadhoome maithune kshaurakarmani.
Taavadbhavati chaandalo yaavatsnaanam na chaacharet.
Tailaabhangye = anointing the body by rubbing oil on it
Chitaadhoome = being exposed to the smoke rising from
a funeral pyre. Maithune =sexual intercourse.copulation.
Kshaurakarmani = shaving the head or the beard. Taavat+
bhavati. Taavat =so long, Bhavati =becomes. Chaandalo=
an outcaste, pariah. Yaavat = until. Snaanam = taking a
bathing. Na = not. Cha+aacharet Cha = and. Acharet=
performs, undertakes.
i.e. After anointing and massaging the body with oil, on
being exposed to the fumes and smoke of a funeral pyre,
after doing sexual intercourse, and after shaving the head or
the beard, so long a person is like a 'Chaandala' (pariah)
until he undertakes a thorough bath.
