आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita .

दुर्जनं  सज्जनं  कर्तुमुपायो  नहि  भूतले  |
अपानं  शतधा  धौतं  न  श्रेष्ठमिन्द्रियं  भवेत्  ||
                                - चाणक्य नीति (१०/१० ०

भावार्थ -       इस पृथ्वी में निश्चय ही  ऐसा कोई उपाय (साधन) नहीं है 
जिस के द्वारा  किसी दुष्ट व्यक्ति को सज्जन बनाया जा सकता हो |
यह  तो वैसा ही है जैसे गुदा (शरीर से मल निकालने  वाली इन्द्रिय ) को
सैकडों  बार जल से धोने पर भी वह एक श्रेष्ठ इन्द्रिय नहीं बन जाती है |

(मानव शरीर मे दस इन्द्रियां  होती  हैं जिन में  नेत्र, नाक, कान, जिह्वा,
तथा त्वचा ज्ञानेन्द्रियां  कहलाती हैं  और हाथ, पैर, मूत्रद्वार , मलद्वार
तथा मुंह  कर्मेन्द्रियां कहलाती हैं |  एक दुर्जन को मलद्वार की उपमा दे
कर यह  प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि दुष्ट प्रकृति के व्यक्ति को सज्जन
किसी भी स्थिति  में नहीं बनाया जा सकता है क्यों कि वह अपने स्वभाव
को बदल नहीं सकता है | )

Durjanam  sajjanam  kartumupaayo  nahi  bhootale.
Apaanam shaatadhaa  dhautam  na shreshthamindriam bhavet.

Durjanam = a wicked person.   Sajjanam = a noble person.
Kartumupaayo = kartum + upaayo.    Kartum = to do or make.
Upaayo = means. way.    Nahi = by no means, surely not.
Bhootale = on this Earth.    Apaanam = anus.   Shatadhaa=
hundred fold.   Dhautam = washing.  Na = not.   Shreshtam +
indriam.    Sreshtham = excellent, best.    Indriam = organ of
human body.    Bhavet = become.

i.e.    There is now way in this Earth to change a wicked person
into a noble person, just like  the anus of the human body which
can not become as one of the excellent organs of human body
even if it is washed with water hundreds of times.

(There are 5 organs of sense (eyes, nose, tongue, ears and skin)
and 5 organs of action (hands, feet, mouth, urinary tract and anus).
The organs of sense are termed as superior than the organs of
action.  Using the anus as a simile for wicked persons the author
has emphasised that they can not be transformed into noble persons.)
