आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita .

पत्रं नैव यदा करीलविटपे  दोषो वसन्तस्य किं
नोलूकोप्यवलोकते  यदि दिवा सूर्यस्य किं दूषणम्  |
वर्षा नैव पतन्ति चातकमुखे  मेघस्य किं दूषणं 
यत्पूर्वं  विधिना ललाट लिखितं तन्मार्जितुं कः क्षमः  ||

भावार्थ -   यदि (कांटों से भरे हुए )करील के वृक्ष में पत्तियों नहीं होती है
तो उस में वसन्त ऋतु का क्या दोष है ?  और यदि उल्लू पक्षी को दिन के
प्रकाश में कुछ भी दिखाई  नहीं देता है तो इसमें सूर्य की  क्या गलती है ?
यदि वर्षा  का जल चातक के मुख में नहीं गिरता है तो इसमें मेघ (बादलों)
की  क्या त्रुटि (गलती) है  ?  विधाता द्वारा किसी के भाग्य में जो कुछ भी
पहले लिख दिया हो उसे मिटाने  की  क्षमता भला किस व्यक्ति में है ?
(अर्थात् कोई भी सक्षम नहीं है ) |

(संस्कृत साहित्य में यह  मान्यता है कि चातक पक्षी केवल तभी अपनी प्यास
बुझाता  है जब  आकाश में  'स्वाति ' नक्षत्र का उदय हुआ हो और वृष्टि हो रही हो
तथा वर्षा का जल सीधे उस के मुंह में पडे | अन्यथा वह प्यासा ही रह जाता है | इस
विचार के संदर्भ में अनेक 'अन्योक्तियां ' कवियों ने रची हैं जिन्हें 'चातकान्योक्ति '
कहा जाता है |)

Patram naiva yadaa kareelavitape  dosho vasantasya kim.
Nolookopyavalokate yadi divaa sooryasya kim dooshanam.
Varshaa naiva patanti chaatakamukhe meghasya kim dooshanam.
Yatpoorvam vidhinaa lalaata likhitam tanmaarjitum kah  kshamah.

Patram = leaves     Naiva =  not.   Yadaa = whenever.    Kareela=
the name of thorny tree.   Vitape = tree.    Dosho =  blame, defect.
Vasantasya = of the Spring Season.   Na + ulooko + api+ avalokate.
Na = not.   Ulooko = the Owl.    Api = even.    Avalokate =sees.
yadi = if.    Divaa = day time.    Sooryasya = of the Sun.   Kim = what.
Dooshanam = fault.    Varshaa = rain.     Patanti = falls.   Chaataka=
a bird about whom there is a legend that it drinks  rain water falling
on its throat during a specific time frame known as 'Svaati Nakshatra'
in Astronomy .  Mukhe = mouth.   Meghasya = of the cloud.   Yat =
that.      Poorvam = earlier.    Vidhinaa = by the destiny.       Lalaata=
forehead.    Likhitam = written.   tam +maarjitum.   Tam = to it.
Maarjitum = remove,  wipe.    Kah = who.    Kshamah = power,capacity.

i.e.    If no leaves grow in a 'kareel' tree ( which is full of thorns) , why
we should blame the Spring Season for it ?    If the Owl is not able to see
any thing during day time, why we should blame the Sun for it ?   If the
rain water does not enter in the mouth of the 'Chaatak' bird (and it remains
thirsty, why should the clouds be  at fault for this ?   Whatever Destiny has
written as one's fate over  his forehead , who is capable of  wiping it ?
 (That is no body is capable to do so and whatever is destined will happen )
