एकाक्षरप्रदातारं यो गुरुं नाभिवन्दते |
श्वानयोनिशतं गत्वा चान्डालेश्वभिजायते ||

भावार्थ - जो व्यक्ति उसे एकाक्षर 'ॐ' मन्त्र की दीक्षा देने
वाले (या मात्र एक अक्षर की भी शिक्षा देने वाले ) अपने गुरु
का उचित आदर नहीं करता है वह एक सौ बार कुत्ते की योनि
में जन्म ले कर अन्ततः चाण्डाल (निम्नतम श्रेणी का मनुष्य )
के रूप में जन्म लेता है |
(भारतीय सनातन धर्म में एक गुरु या शिक्षक के पद को कितना
महत्त्व दिया गया है यह इस सुभाषित से परिलक्षित होता है | )
Ekaakshara-pradaataaram yo gurum naabhivandate.
Shvaana-yoni-shatam gatvaa chaandaaleshvabhijaayate.
Ekaakshara = monosyllabic word , sacred monosyllabic
word Om (ॐ ). Pradaataram = givers of. Yo = who.
Gurum = to the Teacher or 'Guru' Na + abhivandate =
Na = not. Abhivandate = expresses his reverence .
Shvaana = a dog. Yoni = form of existence fixed by birth,
Shatam = one hundred times. Gatvaa = gone, born as.
Chaandaleshu + abhijaayate . Chaandaleshu= outcaste,
a person of the lowest caste. Abhijaayate = be born
again and again.
i.e. A person who does not show due reverence to his
Guru who has initiated him in the sacred 'Om' (ॐ) Mantra
(or taught him even a single word) takes birth as a dog one
hundred times and ultimately is born as a 'Chaandala' .
(In the Sanatan Dharma the highest position is given to a
'Guru' (a teacher) in the society, which, can be judged by
this Subhashita.)
