आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

राज्ञि  धर्मिणि  धर्मिष्ठाः  पापे  पापाः  समे  समाः  |
राजानमनुवर्तन्ते   यथा  राजा  तथा  प्रजाः            ||
                                        - चाणक्य नीति (१३/८ )

भावार्थ -   यदि किसी देश का राजा (शासक) धार्मिक आचरण करने
वाला हो तो उस देश की प्रजा भी धार्मिक होती है | यदि राजा (शासक)
पापी (दुष्ट) हो तो प्रजा भी  पापी होती है और राजा के सामान्य होने
पर प्रजा भी सामान्य होती है  अर्थात जिस प्रकार का राजा का व्यवहार
होता है प्रजा उसी का अनुसरण करती है | इसी लिये कहा गया है  कि -
'यथा राजा तथा प्रजा '  |

(इस सुभाषित कि सत्यता के उदाहरण  पश्चिमी एशिया और अफ़्रीका  के
अनेक देशों मे प्रत्यक्ष रूप से दिखाई देते हैं, जहां सर्वत्र अराजकता व्याप्त है |)


Raagyi  dharmini  dharmishthaah  paape  paapaa  same  samaah.
Raajanamanuvartante  yathaa raajaa tathaa prajaah.

Raagy.   Kings,  Rulers of countries.   Dharmini =observer of
Religious austerity.    Dharmishthaa =  religious minded.    Paape=
Sinful, wicked .      Paapaah =  sinful , wicked.    Samey=  same.
Samaah = equal, matching.    Rajaanamanuvartante =  raajaanam +
anuvartante.   Raajanam =  kings.    Anuvartante=  follow up.
Yathaa = than (for comparison),for instance.   Tathaa =accordingly.
Prajaa = the citizens, subjects.

If the King of a Country (rulers in the present times) observes Religious
austerity, then its subjects are also religious minded and peaceful. If the
King is wicked then the citizens are also wicked and sinful . If the king
is simple the citizens are also the same i.e. they follow the example of
their king (or rulers).   That is why it is rightly said that the citizens  of a
Country follow the example set before them by the King.

(The truth behind this Subhashita can be seen in many countries of West
Asia and Africa, where the rulers are cruel and wicked  and so also the
citizens of these countries where there is lawlessness every where.)
