तद्भोजनं यद्विजभुक्त शेषं
तत्सौहृदं यत्क्रियते परस्मिन् |
सा प्राज्ञता या न करोति पापं
दम्भं विना यः क्रियते स धर्मः ||
- चाणक्य नीति (१५/८ )
भावार्थ - वही भोजन श्रेष्ठ है जो ब्राह्मणों को पहले
भोजन कराने के बाद शेष रहता है | वही सच्ची मित्रता
है जिसमे एक दूसरे के प्रति समान हो | वही विद्वत्ता
श्रेष्ठ होती है जिस के कारण व्यक्ति बुरे और निषिद्ध कार्य
करने की ओर प्रवृत्त नहीं होता है | विना दम्भ (दिखावा
तथा गर्व ) के जो सेवा कार्य किया जाय वही सच्चा धर्म है |
Tadbhojanam yadvijabhukta shesham.
Tatsauhrudam yatkriyate parasmin.
Saa praagyataa yaa na karoti paapam.
Dambham vinaa yah kriyate sa dharmah.
Tat+bhojanam. Tat = that. Bhojanam = food.
Yat + dvija=bhukta. Yat = that. Dvija= a brahmin.
Bhukta = eaten by. Shesham = remaining.
Sauhrudam = friendship for and with. Kriyate=
creates. Parasmin = mutual, from both sides.
Saa = that. Praagyataa = being learned. Yaa =
that. Na = not. Karoti =does. Paapam= evil
deeds. Dambham = hypocrisy. Vinaa = without.
Yah= whosoever. Kriyate = is done. Sa = that.
Dharmah = religious austerity .
i.e. Only that cooked food is good which remains
after feeding the Brahmans . A friendship is real
when it is mutual, and that scholarship is real, which
deters a person from indulging in sinful deeds.
A charitable deed done without hypocrisy (pomp and
pride) is the real religious austerity.
