Kuchailinam dantamalopidhaarinam.
Bahvaashinam nishthurabhaashinam cha.
Sooryodaye chaastamaye shayaanam
Vimunchati Shreeryadi Chakrapaanih.
kuchailinam = wearing dirty clothes. Danta +mala
upadhaarinam, Danta = teeth. Mala =dirty.
Upadhaarinam = holding, Bahu + aashinam.
Bahu = much, very Ashinam = aged Nishthura+
bhaashinam. Nishtura = harsh. Bhaashinam=
speaking. Cha = and. Sooryodaye = at the time
of Sunrise in the morning. Cha+ astamaye.
Astamaye = at the time of the Sunset. Shayaanam=
sleeping. Vimunchita = quits. Shreeh + yadi.
Shreeh = Lakshmi, the goddess of Wealth, wealth
personified. Yadi = even if. Chakrapaani = God
Vishnu, the consort of goddess Lakshmi.
i.e. If a person wears dirty and tattered clothes, his
teeth are covered with plaque, is aged and speaks
harshly, remains asleep at the time of Sunrise and
Sunset, then Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth also
abandons such a person, even if he may be her own
Consort God Vishnu.
(In this Subhashita by the use of a hyperbole , it has
been propagated that persons having these shortcomings
are never rich .)
