त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः |
कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत् त्रयं त्यजेत् ||
- विदुर नीति
भावार्थ - कामवासना , क्रोध्, तथा लोभ ये दुर्गुण नरक के तीन
द्वारों के समान हैं और मनुष्य की आत्मा का नाश कर देते हैं |
अतः इन तीनों दुर्गुणों को त्याग देना चाहिये |
(इन तीनों दुष्प्रवृत्तियों के कारण मनुष्य का जीवन नारकीय
हो जाता है | अतः इस सुभाषित के माध्यम से इन दुर्गुणों को
त्याग देने का परामर्श दिया गया है | )
Trividham narakasyedam dvaaram naashanamaatmanah.
Kaamah krodhastathaa lobhastasmaadetat trayam tyajet.
Trividham = threefold. Narakasya + idam Narakasya =
of the Hell. Idam =these. Dvaaram = doors.
Naashanam+ aatmanah. Naashanam = destruction.
Aatmanah= self, soul. Kaamah = Desire, sexual urge.
Krodhah = anger. Lobhah + tasmaat + etat. Lobhah=
Greed. Tasmaat = therefore. Etat = these. Trayam =
these three. Tyajet =shun, avoid.
i.e. Uncontrolled sexual urge, anger and greed, these
vices are like three doors of the Hell and destroy the soul
of a person indulging in these vices. Therefore, people
should shun these three vices.
(If a person indulges in these three vices his life becomes
like living in the Hell. Through this Subhashita the author
has warned not to do so.)
