वरं प्राणपरित्यागो मानभङ्गेन जीवनात् |
प्राणत्यागे क्षणं दुःखं मानभङ्गे दिने दिने ||
- चाणक्य नीति (१६/१५ )
भावार्थ - मानभङ्ग् (अपमानित ) होने पर भी जीवित रहने से तो
प्राण त्याग देना ही श्रेयस्कर है, क्यों कि प्राण त्यागने में तो क्षण भर
के लिये दुःख होता है परन्तु अपमानित होने पर दिन प्रति दिन दुःख
भोगना पडता है |
Varaam praaanaparityaago maanabhangena jeevanaat.
Praanatyaage kshanam Duhkham maanabhange dine dine.
Varam = iti is preferable. Praana = breathe of life
Parityaaga = cession. Maanabhangena= by being insulted
or dishonoured. Jeevanaat = living. Praaanatyaage =
by cession of life. Kshanam= momentary. Duhkham =
suffering. Dine dine = every day.
i.e. It is preferable to die rather than remaining alive on being
insulted . While in dying there is momentary suffering,on being
insulted one has to suffer every day.
