Daanena paanirna tu kankanena.
Snaanena shuddhirna tu chandanena.
Maanena tushtirna tu bhojanena,
Gyaanena muktirna tu mundanena.
Daanena = by giving donations. Paanih + na.
Paanih = hand. Na = not. Tu = and Kankanena =
A bracelet. Snaanena = by taking a bath, Shuddhi =
cleanliness. Chandanena = by smearing the body
with a paste of sandalwood. Maanena = by giving
due respect. Truptih = satisfaction, contentment.
Bhojanena = serving a sumptuous meal. Gyaanena =
by higher spiritual knowledge. Muktih = salvation.
Mundanena = by tonsuring the head.
i.e. Hands are embellished by giving donations and not
by wearing bracelets. The body is cleansed by taking a
bath and not by smearing the paste of sandalwood over
the body. A person feels contented by being given due
respect and not by simply being provided a meal. A person
can achieve salvation by acquiring higher spiritual knowledge
and not by merely tonsuring his head.
Beautiful.
