Today's Subhashita.

Agyah  sukhamaaraadhya  sukhataramaaraadhyate visheshagyah.
Gyaanalavadurvidagdham Bruhmaapi tam varam na ranja

Agyah = ignorant person.   Sukhamaaraadhya =  sukham +
aaraadhya.     Sukham = pleasurable (easy)         Araadhya =
to accomplish (convince)   Sukhataram =  easier.   Araadhyate =
to convince..  Visheshagyah = a very knowledgeable person.
Gyaanalavadurvidagdham =  gyaana  +lava + durvidagdham.
Gyaana = Knowledge   Lava = loss. Durvidagdham = ,wrongly
taught,  silly.  Bruhmaapi = Bruhmaa + api.  Bruhmaa = the creator
of the Universe.    Api - even.   Tam =to him   Naram = man.
Na = not.    Ranjayate =  is able to please or satisfy.

i.e.     It is easy to convince an ignorant person  and easier to convince
a very knowledgeable person.  But even Brahma, the creator of this
World can not convince a wrongly taught silly person having negative
attitude.

( This subhashita describes a silly and ill-taught person who thinks
himself  as a very wise person. )

Today's Subhasita.

Svaayattamekaantagunam  vidhaaya vinirmitam  chaadanamagyataayaah.
Visheshatah sarvavidaam  samaaje  vibhooshanam  maunamapanditaanaam.

Svaayatta = one's own master    Ekaant = only one.   Gunam = virtue.

Chadaanam =  covering up.    Agyataayaa = idiocy, ignorance.  Visheshatah=
specially.   Sarva - all.    Vidaam = learned persons.  Samaaje = assembly of.
Vibhooshanam = splendour, beauty.   Maunamapanditaanaam =  maunam +
apanditaanaam.   Maunam = maintain silence, .  Apanditaanaam =illiterate.

i.e.     Almighty destiny has created a virtue  by adopting which illiterate or
semi-literate  people can cover up their shortcoming. That virtue is to maintain
silence (not  to speak anything), particularly in an assembly of learned persons,
where this virtue  embellishes their personality like an ornament .

(In another Subhashita dealing with this subject , it has been said that as soon
as a foolish persons speaks something, his ignorance and foolishness gets
exposed immediately.)

Mruga-meena-sajjanaanaam truna-jala-santosha vruttinaam.

a fisherman.   Pishunaa= wicked persons.  Nishkaaranameva =
nishkaaranam +eva.  Nishkaarana = without any cause or reason.
Eva = really.   Vairino = enemies.   Jagati = world.

i.e.             The livelihood of  deer , fish, and noble persons is
respectively grass, water and  being content whatever they get.
But without any cause or reason their enemies in this world are
hunters, fishermen and wicked persons.

(Through this Subhashita  the author has described the nature of
wicked persons who do harm to others without any valid reason.)

Today's Subhashita.

Parishuddhaamapi   vruttim samaashrito durjanah paraanvyathate.
Pavanaashinopi  bhujagaah  paraparitaapam   na  munchati.

Parishuddhaamapi = parishuddhaam + api.     Parishuddhaam  =

Ashino =. living on.    Bhujagaah = snakes.  Para = others.
Paritaapam = pain, agony.   Na = not.   Munchati = give up.

i.e.        Even if the lifestyle of wicked persons may be pure and
simple, they still  do not abandon their mentality of  causing fear
and harm to others,  just like the snakes subsisting mainly on air
do not give up their nature of causing agony and pain to others.

(Although snakes  subsist mainly on small animals like frogs, mice
etc,  they can live for long periods only on air . But still people are
afraid of them , and so is the case  with wicked persons who also have
the tendency of causing harm to others, which they can not abandon.)

Utsaaha-sampannam-adeerghasootram  kriyaavidhigyam
vyasaneshvasaktam.

i.e.     If a person is endowed with enthusiasm, promptness,
expertise in doing business, freedom from bad habits, brave,
grateful, firm in his dealings, and  friendly behaviour,  then
Mahalakshmi, the goddess incarnate of wealth herself goes
to reside in the residence of such a person.

(In this Subhashita the author has outlined metaphorically the
qualities at a person must have to be rich and successful .)

Kimatra chitram yatsantah paraanugrahatatparaah,
Nahi svadehashaityaaya jaaayante  chaandana-drumaah.

i.e.Kimatra= Kim + atra.     Chitram = strange.    Yatsantaah =

Chandana = Sandalwood.    Drumaah = trees.

i.e.    How strange is it that the aim of  noble and righteous
persons is always/be ready to help others even by facing
hardships themselves, just like the Sandalwood tree  which
provides coolness to others and not to itself.

Today's Subhashita.

Iyamunnata-satvashaalinee  mahataam kaapi kathorachittataa.
Upakrutya bhavanti  dooratah  paratah  pratyupakaara-shankayaa.

Iyam + unnata +satvashaalinee.    Iyam = this.   Unnata =  noble.
Satvashaalinee = energetic, courageous.   Mahataam = great men.
Kaapi = any.   Kathorachittataa = cruelty.   Upakrutya = after helping.
Bhavanti = they are.   Dooratah =  at a distance,  aloof.    Paratah =
distant, strange.    Pratyupakaara = gratitude, returning a favour.
Shankayaa  = doubt, apprehension.

i.e.     If noble and great persons after helping a person remain aloof
and indifferent towards him , it is due to their apprehension that the
person assisted by them may try to express his gratitude  or try to
return the favour done towards him.
