Today's Subhashita.

Akrutvaa parasantaapamagatvaa  khalanamrataam.
Anutsrujya  sataam  vartma  yatsvalpmapi tadvahu.

Akrutvaa =  having undone.         Parasantapamagatvaa=

Namrataam = politeness.    Anutsrujya = without giving
up.    Sataam = noble and righteous persons.   Vartma=
path,  course.   Yatsvalpamapi = yat + svalpam + api.

Tadvahuh =  tat+ bahu.    Tat = that    Bahu = much.

i.e.     If we do not cause grief to others by our actions, and
by not relying on the sweet talk of wicked people do not act
on their advice, and on the other hand follow the teachings
of noble and righteous persons (path devised by them) even
a little, it is very beneficial  for our progress in our life.

Today's Subhashita.

'

Arthee karoti dainyam  labdhaartho  garva  paritosham.
Nashtdhanasya  sshokah  sukhamaaste  nisprahh  purushah.

Arthee = longing for some thing.       Karoti = do, causes.
Dainyam= miserable state, poverty.     Labdhaartho=  labdha+
artho.  Labdha =  received.    Artho = wealth, money.   Garva =
pride.  Paritosham =gratification, satisfaction.   Nashtadhanashcha=
nasht+dhanah +cha.    Nasht = lost, destroyed.    Dhanah =wealth
Cha = and.    Sashokah =sorrowful, sad.    Sukhamaaste = sukham+
aaste.    Sukham = happiness.   Aaste = exists, remains.  Nihspraha=
indifferent, free from desires.    Purushah = a person.

i.e.      A persons longing for some thing  feels his life miserable if he
is unable to fulfil his desires.    On the other hand a person whose
desires are fulfilled  and he acquires wealth , he becomes very proud,
and when  people  lose  their  wealth they become very sad.  So, the
real happiness is enjoyed only by a person who is free from desires and
satisfied over his lot and treats the situations of happiness and sorrow
stoically.

(The idea behind this subhashita is that the real happiness is in controlling
our desires and view the situations of happiness and sorrow stoically.)

Today's Subhashita.

Praayena dhaninaameva dhanalobho nirantaram.
Pashya  kotidvayopetam  lakshaaya  pranatam dhanuh.

Praayena = generally, most probably.   Dhaninaam + eva.

already owning Rupees two crores , bows reverentially like a
bow to get just  a sum of Rupees one lac.

(The above Subhashita classified under the head 'Greed' depicts
very nicely the general mentality of rich people.)

Today's Subhashita.

Bhagavantau  jagannetre Sooryaachandramasaavapi.
Pashya  gacchata  evaastam  niyatih  kena  langhyate.

Bhagavantau =God Almighty.    Jagannetra= jagat +netra.

go.  evaastam = eva + astam.    Eva = thus.    Astam = set.
Niyatih = destiny.    kena =by what.    Langhyate=   avoid,
overstep.

i.e.     The God Almighty created the Sun and the Moon as
the eyes of this World.  But they too have to commence their
journey and set down every day.   Can any body dare to avoid
or overstep his/her destiny ?

( People are helpless against their destiny. This fact has been
highlighted by a  metaphor (hyperbole) of  the Sun  and Moon
depicted as eyes of this World,  They too  can not go against
the will of  the God Almighty and are destined to rise and set
every day without any break.)

Kim karoti narah praagyah  shooro  vaapyatha  panditah.

by him bear no fruitful results and he is in a fix as to what he
should do now.

Today's Subhashita.

oceans, mountain peaks, while in a drunken state or asleep, as also various
other difficult situations'

(According to Sanatan Dharma, the Hindu Religion, if a person leads a
virtuous life , he earns certain plus points called 'Punya' , which help him to
lead a happy life in his next birth. On the other hand if he leads a sinful life ,
he earns negative points called 'Paap' (sins). This subhashita deals with this
aspect of the Religion.)

Today's Subhashita.

आवइ ताहि पहिं  ताहि तहां लै जाइ  || }

Bhagnaashasya  karandapeeditatanormlaanendriyasya kshudhaa.
Krutvaakhurvivaram  svyam nipatito naktm mukhe bhoginah.
Truptastatpishitena satvaramasau  tenaiva yaatah pathaah.
Lokaah pashyat daivameva hi nrunaam vruddhau khsye kaaranam.

Bhagnashasya = bhagna+aashasya.    Bhagna=curved.   Aashasya=
a snake's .   Karanda +peedita +tanoh+ mlaana+indriyayasya.
Karanda= a basket of bamboo wicker  work.  Peedita = distressed.
Tanoh = body.    Mlaana = exhausted.      Indriyasya =  organs.
Kshudhaa = hunger.    Krutvaakhurvivaram =  Krutva+ aakhuh +
vivaram.   Krutvaa = done.   Akhu = a mouse.   Vivaram = hole.
Svyam = himself.    Nipatito = fallen down.  Naktum = night.
Mukhe = mouth.    Bhoginah = eating.   Truptah =  satiated.
Tat = that.  Pishitena=  by the flesh of the mouse,    Satvaram =
speedily.    Asau = such.    Tenaiva = the same.    Yaatah = went.

Destiny alone.    Hi = surely, really.   Nrunaam = men.  Vruddhau=
Growth.     Kshaye = decay.     Karanam = reason.

i.e.   A snake catcher had put a snake in a basket made of bamboo
wicker work. There the snake was lying distressed and hungry. In
the night a mouse bored a hole in the basket  and landed on the mouth
of the hungry snake, who, after eating the flesh of the mouse did not
spare even a moment and came out of the same hole made by the
mouse.  O people !   see how destiny  alone is responsible for the
prosperity and downfall of people .

(A Hindu poet has summed up this aspect in a couplet the summary
of which is that destiny does not come to a person , but  forces him
to go to that place where he will meet his destiny, as in the case of
the mouse detailed in the above Subhashita..)
