Today's Subhashita.

Arthopyanarthena chetsaadhyayah kaa vaartaa dharmakaamayoh .
Arthah sarvajaganmoolah anarthorthaviparyayah.

Arthopyanarthena = artho + api + anarthena.    Artho = wealth, finance.
Api = even.     Anarthena = through unethical means.   Chetsaadhyayah =

artha +viparyayah.   Anartho = calamity.   Viparyayah = crisis..

i.e.          If  acquisition of wealth is done even through unethical means,
then of what  use is to talk about Dharma (religiosity) and Kama (sensuality) ?
Finance is at the root of all types of activities in this world and if unethical
means are adopted to manage it, it brings financial crisis in the World.

( Hindu Religion divides the lifestyle into four main areas i.e. Dharma, Artha.
 Kama and Moksha and seeks a balance of the first three in all activities in
 order to achieve the main aim of life i.e. Moksha (salvation).  In the above
Subhashita it is mentioned that it is of no use to earn wealth by ignoring
Dharma and Kama, as wealth acquired through unethical means is harmful
for the society and results in financial crisis, as happened during 2007 in the
World,  known as the Big Wall Street Crash.)

Todaay's Suubhashita.

i.e.     A person who is an expert in the science of creation, augmentation
and preservation of wealth (Economics)is considered a real scholar.
Just like a big lake overflowing with water, which provides sustenance and
shelter to numerous birds, an Economist also uses his expertise in uplifting
the economy of a country.

(In this Subhashita by equating Economics with Science, and by using a
simile of a big lake for an economist,  the author has emphasized the role
of an Economist in a country's economy.)

matiryasya = matih +yasya.    Matih =  intelligence.
Yasya = whose.    Vivartitah = goes astray,  becomes dull.

i.e.       A person without any wealth although alive is like a dead

Today's Subhashita.

Artherarthaa nibadhayante gajairiva mahaagajaah.
Na hynarathavataa shakyam vaanijyam kartumeehayaa.

Artherarthaa =arthaih +arthaa.    Arthaih = (through ) wealth.
Arthaa ) various other forms of wealth.      Nibadhyante  =
captured., acquired.     Gajairiva =  gajaih + iva.    Gajaih =
elephants.     Iva =  like.      Mahaagajaah = big wild elephants
(tuskars).    Na = not.   Hyanarthvataa = hi = anarthavataa.
Hi = surely.     Anarthvataa  = persons not having any wealth'
Shakyam = possible      Vanijyam = commerce, business.
Kartumeehayaa.   Kartum + ihayaa.       Kartum = doing.
Ihayaa =  attempt .

i.e.      Acquiring more wealth by the judicious use of the existing
wealth is just like capturing a wild tusker (elephant) with the help
of domesticated elephants.  This implies that it is  not possible for
a person having no wealth to even make an attempt to do business.

(The maxim of Economics that money begets more money, has been
beautifully outlined in this Subhashita through the use of a simile of
capturing  of  wild Tuskers with the help of domesticated elephants.)
