अर्जितं स्वेन वीर्येण नान्यपाश्रित्य कंचन |
फलशाकमपि श्रेयो भोक्तुं ह्यकृपणे ग्रहे ||
अर्थ - प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को धन संपत्ति अपने स्वयं के प्रयत्न से अर्जित करनी चाहिये न कि अन्य व्यक्तियों के ऊपर आश्रित रह कर | इस हेतु यदि एक कंजूस व्यक्ति के समान अपने ही घर में शाक सब्जी पर ही जीवन निर्वाह करना पडे तो यही श्रेयस्कर है |
Arjitam svena veeryena naanyapaashritya kanchanam.
Pjalashaakmapi shreyo bhoktum hyakkrupane grahe.
Arjitam = earned. Svena = self. Veeryena = by the strength or efforts. Naanyapaashritya = na + anyapaashritya. Na = not. Anyapashritya = depending on others. Kanchana = gold, wealth.
Phalashakamapi = phala +shaakam + api. Phala = fruits. Shaakam = vegetables. Api = even.
Shreyo = preferable, rely on. Bhoktum = dine, have meals. Hyakrupane = hi +krupane.
Hi = surely. Krupane = a miser's Gruhe = residence.
i.e. Every person should acquire wealth through his own efforts rather than depending upon others. To achieve this objective it is preferable even to live as a miser and sustain his family on ordinary vegetables and fruits.
