Today's Subhashita.

अतिथीनां   न संस्कारो  न  च  सज्जनसंगमः  |

न  यत्र  स्वात्मवर्णस्था  सः  ग्रहाश्रम  वञ्चना   ||

अर्थ -       जिस परिवार में अतिथियों का आदर सत्कार नहीं होता है , न सज्जन व्यक्तियों  का समागम होता है  और न हीं उसके सदस्यों का जीवन स्तर उच्च होता है ,  ऐसा परिवार होना एक छलावा मात्र है |

(प्रकारान्त से इस सुभाषित के अनुसार  एक  सुखी और सुसंस्कृत परिवार तभी  होता है जब वहां  अतिथियों का  सत्कार और सज्जन व्यक्तियों का सान्निध्य सदैव होता है |)

Atitheenaam  na sanskaaro na cha sajjanasangamah.

Na yatra svaatmavarnasthaa saa gruhaashrama vanchanaa.

Atitheenaam =  guests.     Na = not.     Sanskaaro = adornment, embellishment,      Cha = and.

Sajjanasangamah =  assembly of noble person.       Yatra = where.    Svaatmavarnasthaa = sva +

aatmavarnasthaa.      Sva = of self.      Aatmavarnasthaa = quality of life.    Sah = that.

Gruhaashram = household.      Vanchanaa = a deception., travesty.

i.e.    In a household where guests are not adorned and entertained,  there is no association with noble and righteous persons, and its members have  no social status and quality of life, then such a household is like a mere deception or a travesty of being a household.

(Through this subhashita the author has indirectly mentioned the prerequisites of a successful and 

illustrious house hold i.e. giving due respect and attention towards the guests, association with noble and righteous persons and a high standards of living.)
