Today's Subhashita.

व्यक्त  किया गया है |}

Aajagaama yadaa Lakshmeer-naarikela-phalaambuvat.
Nirjagaama yadaa Lakshmeer-gajabhukta-kapitthavat.

Aajagaama = arrives, comes.     Yadaa = when,    Lakshmeeh+
naarikela*phala + ambuvaat =  Naarikelaphalaambuvat.
Lakshmeeh = the Goddess of Riches (here reference to the
process of getting rich)     Narikela = coconut tree.    Phala =
fruit.     Ambuvat = like the water.     Nirjagaama = departs.
Gajabhuktakapitthavat = gaja+ bhukta +kapittha +vat.
Gaja = an elephant.    Bhukta = eaten.    Kapitthavat =a tree.
Vat =  like a.

i.e.       Whenever wealth accumulates with a person it is just like the
sweet water collected inside the fruits of a Coconut tree, but when
it departs it is like a tree devastated by an elephant for feeding him.

(In this Subhashita becoming rich and poor has been  symbolized  by
the arrival and departure of  Lakshmi, the goddess of Wealth in Hindu
Religion..)

  1. Kapittha is wood apple. When an elephant swallows a wood apple, the contents come out of the shell of the fruit into the stomach of the elephant dur to its digestion process. Magically, the shell remains in tact and comes out of the elephant as if it's a good fruit.

    So here the shloka describes that when Goddess Laxmi leaves someone, the person is not able to know. He only lives with the shell of the wood apple.
