Today's Subhashita.

आदौ छायातिदीर्घापि प्राच्यामल्पतरा ततः   |
तथा मैत्र्यसतामादौ   दीर्घाप्यल्पतरा भवेत्   ||  - महासुभषित सं ग्रह (4746)

अर्थ -      प्रारम्भ में  सूर्य के पूर्व दिशा में उदय  होते समय  उत्पन्न हुई छाया
यद्यपि अत्यन्त लम्बी होती है पर और समय व्यतीत होने के  बाद वह्  धीरे धीरे
आकार में छोटी  हो जाती है |  इसी प्रकार असज्जन (दुष्ट)व्यक्तियों से की गयी
मित्रता भी प्रारम्भ में बहुत प्रगाढ होती है और तत्पश्चात् बहुत छोटी  हो जाती है |

Aadau chaayaatideerghaapi praachyaamalpataraa tathh.
Tathaamaitryasataamaadau  deerghaapyalpataraa bhavet.

Adau = , initially.in the beginning     Chaayaatideerghaapi = chaayaa +
ati +deerghsa+ api.     Chaayaa = shadow.     Ati = very.    Deergha =
long.     Api = even (to express emphasis)., also, too   Praachyaamalpataraa
Praachyaam +alpataraa.       Praachyaam = easterly direction.
Alpataraa = smaller.    Tathh = thereafter.    Tathaa = thus, in  that
manner.    Maitryasataamadau = Maitrya+asataam +aadau.    Maitrya =
friendship.         Asataam =  wicked and mean persons..
Deerghaapyalpataraa =deergha +api+ alpataraa.   Bhavet = will become.

i.e.       When the Sun rises in the East, the shadows cast by it are very long and get
reduced in size afterwards.  In the same manner the friendship with wicked and
mean persons is initially intense  and  gets reduced  afterwards..
