आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

सुखमध्ये स्थितं दुःखं दुःखमध्ये स्थितं सुखम्  |
द्व्यमन्योन्यसंयुक्तं  प्रोच्यते  जल  पङ्कवत्   ||

भावार्थ -   सुखी होने की स्थिति के बीच में अचानक दुःख की  स्थिति
उत्पन्न हो जाना, और इसी प्रकार दुःख की  स्थिति में सुख की स्थिति
का उत्पन्न हो जाना ,  इन  दोनों परिस्थितियों में समानता है और यह
कहा जाता है कि वे एक दूसरे की उसी प्रकार पूरक  हैं जैसे कि जल और
मिट्टी मिल कर कीचड बन जाते हैं |

(इस सुभाषित में सुख को जल की और दुःख को मिट्टी की उपमा दी गयी
है और उपर्युक्त दोनों ही परिस्थितियों का परिणाम एक सा ही होता है
अर्थात कीचड |)

Sukhamadhye sthitam duhkham duhkhamadhye sthitam sukham.
Dvayamanyonyasamyuktam prochyate jalapankavat.

Sukha = happiness, pleasure.             Madhye = in the middle of.
Sthitam = staying, position.        Duhkham =  distress, sorrow.
Dvayamanyonyasamyuktam = dvyama +anyonya +samyuktam.
Dvayam  = a pair, both of them.     Anyonya = mutual, reciprocal.
Samyuktam =  conjoined, associated.    Prochyate = pra +uchyate.
Pra = a prefix to a word denoting excess of a thing.    Uchyate =
be regarded as.    Jalapankavat = jala + pank+vat.      Jala = water
Panka=  clay,  mud.   Vat = like (implying likeness)

i.e.        There is much reciprocity between these two situations,
namely (i)  suddenly facing distress during a phase of happiness
and (ii) suddenly facing happiness during a phase of distress, as
their end result is the same. It is proclaimed that their association
is just like water and clay mixed together which results in creation
of mud.

(In this Subhashit the simile of water has been used for happiness and
the simile  of clay for sorrow and distress  and a combination of both
together as mud.)
