आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

अज्ञः सुखमाराध्यः  सुखतरमाराध्यते   विशेषज्ञः  |
ज्ञानलवदुर्विदग्धं   ब्रह्माSपि तं  नरं  न  रञ्जयति ||              
                                           -भर्तृहरि (नीतिशतक)

भावार्थ -       एक अज्ञानी (मूर्ख)व्यक्ति थोडा बहुत सुखी होने पर और भी
अनेक प्रकार के सुखों की कामना करता है | ऐसे ज्ञानहीन और मूढ व्यक्ति
को तो स्वयं सृष्टिकर्ता ब्रह्मा जी भी संतुष्ट नहीं कर सकते हैं |

( इस सुभाषित का तात्पर्य यह है कि एक शिक्षित और बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति को
तो संतुष्ट किया जा सकता है परन्तु एक मूर्ख व्यक्ति को नहीं | )

Agyah sukham-aaraadhyah  sukhataramaaraadhyate vishesheshagyah.
Gyaanalavadurvidagdham Brahmaapi tam naram na ranjayati.

Agyah = an ignorant person.   Sukham = happiness.  Araadhya = after
accomplishing .     Sukhataram = more happiness,   Aaraadhyate = to be
accomplished.   Visheshagyah = knowing various other kinds of happiness.
Gyaanalava =very little knowledge.    Durvidagdham = silly.   Brahmaapi=
Brahmaa + api.   Brahmaa = the God Brahmaa.  Api = even, Tam = that.
Naram = person.   Na = not.   Ranjayati = gratify.

i.e.      An ignorant person on achieving  a little happiness craves for many
more types of comforts and happiness.  But even the Creator Brahma himself
can not gratify such a silly person having very little knowledge ,

(The idea behind this subhashita is that it is easier to convince a knowledgeable
person but it is very difficult to convince a silly and dull headed person.)
