कशायैरुपवासैश्च कृतामुल्लोपतां नृणाम्|
निजौषधकृतां वैद्यो निवेद्य हरते धनम् ||

भावार्थ - विभिन्न वनस्पतियों का कषाय (रस या काढा) पीने से
तथा उपवास करने से लोग रोगमुक्त हो जाते है , पर उसी उद्देश्य
से अपनी ही बनायी हुई औषधियां दे कर एक वैद्य लोगों से धन
हरण करता है |
(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित "कुवैद्योपहासः " शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत संकलित
है | अनेक साधारण रोग दैनन्दिन उपयोग में आने वाली वस्तुओं
जैसे, लहसुन, अदरख , जीरा अजवाइन तुलसी आदि के सेवन से .
(जिसे हम घरेलू उपचार कहते हैं) दूर हो जाते हैं | उसी हेतु जब कोई
वैद्य या डाक्टर बहुत मंहगी दवा देता है तो वह वास्तव में धन हरना
ही कहा जा सकता है | वर्तमान समय में यह अब एक बडी समस्या
और कुप्रथा बन गयी है, विशेषतः विदेशी उपचार पद्धति में | इसी
प्रवृत्ति का इस सुभाषित में उपहास किया गया है |)

Kashaayairupavaasaishcha krutamullopataam nrunaam.

Kaashaayairupavaasaishcha = kashayaih + upavasaih +cha.
Kaashaayairupavaasaishcha = kashayaih + upavasaih +cha.
Kashayaih = aromatic astringents, Upavaasah = fasting.
Cha = and. krutaamullopataam = krutaam +ullopataam.
Krutaaam = by doing. Ullopataam = taking out, get cured.
Nrunaam = people. Nijaushadhakrutaam = nija + ausshadha
+ krutaam. Nija = his own. Aushadha = medicine. Vidyo=
a physician practicing Ayurveda,the Indian system of treating
diseases. Nivedya = by offering or prescribing. Harate =
takes away, Dhanam = money, wealth.
i.e. People get cured from common ailments by using aromatic
astringents easily available in our day-to-day life , but if for their
treatment a Vaidya prescribes his own costly medicines, he robs
people of their wealth.

Vaidya' . There are many diseases which can be cured by the use
of commonly used herbs and vegetation used in our day to day life.
But if a doctor prescribes his own or patented costly medicines for
curing these ailments, he definitely robs the people of their wealth.
This tendency of prescribing very costly medicines is now-a-days
very rampant , particularly in western system of medical treatment.)
