आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashia

मासि मासि समा ज्योत्स्ना  पक्षयोरुभयोरापि  |
तत्रैकः शुक्लपक्षोSभूदयशः   पुण्यैरवाप्यते       ||
             - सुभाषित रत्नाकर (प्रसंग रत्नावली )

भावार्थ -   प्रत्येक मास में चन्द्रमा की ज्योत्स्ना दोनों पक्षों में
(शुक्ल पक्ष तथा कृष्णपक्ष )एक समान ही होती है |   परन्तु
शुक्ल पक्ष को  ही अधिक यश और पुण्य प्राप्त होता है }

(शुक्ल पक्ष की विशेषता यह  है कि उसमें  चन्द्रमा की ज्योत्स्ना
में दिन प्रति दिन वृद्धि हो कर पौर्णमासी को अधिकतम प्रकाश
होता है | इस के विपरीत  कृष्ण पक्ष में  ज्योत्स्ना में निरन्तर
अवनति   होती है  और अमावस्या के दिन  पूर्ण अन्धकार हो जाता है |
इसी लिये शुक्ल पक्ष को कृष्ण पक्ष की तुलना में शुभ माना जाता है | 
इसी भावना को गोस्वामी तुलसीदास जी ने इस दोहे में बडे सुन्दर रूप
से प्रस्तुत किया है :-
                      सम प्रकाश तम पाख दुहुं  नाम भेद विधि कीन  |
                       ससि शोषक पोषक समुझि जग जस अपजस दीन्ह || )

Maasi maasi samaa jyotsnaa pakshayorubhayorapi.
Tatraikah shuklapakshoabhoodyashah punyairavaapyate.

Maasi = month.   Samaa = equal .    Jyotsnaa = moonlight.
Pakshayorubhayorapi = Pakshyaoh + ubhayoh + api.
Pakshayoh =fortnights.   Ubhayoh = both.   Api = even.
Tatraikah = tatra= aikah.    Tatra = there.   Aikah = one,
singly.   Shuklapaksho = the fortnight of waxing moon.
Abhoot = produced.   Yashah = fame.honour   Punyaih =
auspiciousness.   Avaapyate = obtains.

i.e.       Although throughout the month in each fortnight the
Moon gives the same amount of moonlight in both the waxing
and waning fortnight, even then the fortnight of the waxing Moon
is considered more famous and auspicious.

(In Hindu religion most of the  religious festivals and rituals are
guided by the phases of Moon and the waxing phase is considered
as more auspicious as the Moon gradually increases in size and gives
maximum brightness on the 15th day, whereas in the second fortnight
it gradually reduces and ultimately on the last day of the month there
is complete darkness.)
