आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

वरयेत्कुलजां  प्राज्ञो विरूपामपि कन्यकाम्  |
रूपशीलां  न  नीचस्य  विवाहः सदृशे  कुले   ||
                              - चाणक्य नीति (१/१४ )

भावार्थ -    बुद्धिमान  व्यक्तियों को  विवाह  हेतु कन्या  का चयन
एक  प्रतिष्ठित और अच्छे कुल से करना चाहिये  चाहे वह कन्या
कुरूप ही  क्यों न हो |  किसी नीच कुल की कन्या का चयन केवल
उसके सुन्दर होने के कारण ही नहीं करना चाहिये | इसके अतिरिक्त
विवाह  सम्बन्ध  ऐसे ही कुल में करना चाहिये जो आर्थिक और
सामाजिक स्तर में अपने कुल के समान ही  हो |

Varayetkulajaam  praagyo  viroopaamapi  kanyakaam.
Roopasheelaaam  na  neechasya  vivaahh  sadrushe kule.

Varayet = choose.   Kulajaam =born in a noble family.
Praagyo = wise  men.    Viroopaam + api.    Api = even.
Viroopaam = ugly looking.   Kanyakaam = a girl,
Roopasheelaam = beautiful.   Na = not.    Neechasya =
of a low and insignificant family background.   Na = not.
Vivaahah = marriage.     Sadrushe = similar.        Kule =
family dynasty (background ).

i.e.    Wise men should select a girl for marriage from a
noble and illustrious family, even if the girl may not be
beautiful , but should not select a girl from a lowly family
simply on the basis of her being beautiful.   Besides, such
relationship should be established in a family matching in
financial and social status with one's own family.
