रिपुः पौलस्त्याख्यश्चरणचरितव्यो जलनिधि-
र्विजेतव्या लङ्का रणभुवि सहायाश्च कपयः |
तथाSप्येको रामः सकलमवधीद्राक्षसकुलं
क्रियासिद्धिः सत्वे भवति महतां नोपकरणे ||

भावार्थ - ऋषि पुलस्त्य के कुल में जन्मा दुर्दान्त लंका पति रावण
श्री राम चन्द्र का शत्रु था | उस पर आक्रमण करने के लिये उन्हें समुद्र
पार कर लंका को जीतने के लिये उसे ही रणभूमि बनाना था और वानर
ही उनके सहायक थे | फिर भी उन्होंने सारे राक्षस कुल का नाश कर
दिया | सचमुच अपना कार्य सिद्ध करने के लिये महान और शक्तिशाली
व्यक्ति अपने शौर्य पर निर्भर होते हैं न कि अन्य वाह्य उपकरणों पर |
Ripuh Paulastayaakhyash-charana-charitavyo Jalanidhi-
rvijetavyaa Lanka ranabhuvi sahaayaash-cha kapayah.
Tathaapyeko Raamah sakalam-avadhee-draakshasha-kulam.
Kriyaasiddhih satve bhavati mahataam nopakarane..
Ripuh = enemy. Paulastya = descended from Pulastya Rishi
Akhya = infamous. (A reference to infamous Ravana, the
King of Lanka. Charana = managing. Charitavyo = to be
crossed. Jalanidhih = the Ocean. Vijetavyaa = to be overcome
or conquered. Lanka =the kingdom of Ravana, Ranabhuvi=
battlefield. Sahayah = helpers, followers. Kapayah =monkeys
Tathaapi = even then. Eko = only one. Raamah = Lord Raam.
Sakalam = all. Avadheet= killed. Rakshashkulam = the dynasty
of Raakshashaas. Kriyasiddhih = accomplishment of an objective.
Satve = powerful. Bhavati = happens, Mahataam =great and
mighty persons. Nopakarane = na+ upakarane. Na =not.
Upakarane = equipments, tools.
i.e. The infamous king Ravana, the descendant of Sage Pulastya
was the enemy of Lord Ram. To conquer Ravana he had to attack
Lanka by crossing the Ocean and make it into a battle field. The only
assistance he got to accomplish this task was from the monkeys. Even
then Lord Ram managed to kill the entire clan of the Rakshashaas.
It is truly said that great and powerful persons achieve success in
their endeavor due to their valor and not through various equipments.
