Today's Subhashita.

Jeevantam mrutavanmanye dehinam  dharmavarjitam.
Mruto dharmena smyukto  deerghajeevee na smshayah.

Jeevantam= life.    Mrutavat+ manye.    Mrutavat = like a
dead person.    Manye = I think.   Dehinam =  living being.
Dharma=  Religion    Varjitam = without.   Mruto = dead.
Dhermena = with Religion.    Smyukto = associated with.
Deerghajeevee = long-lived.  Na = no.   Smshaya= doubt.

i.e.       I think that those living beings who do not observe
religious austerity, although alive,  are like the dead . Although
those who observe religious austerity also die , there is no doubt
that they are long-lived.

Today's Subhashita.

Raagyi  dharmini  dharmishthaah  paape  paapaa  same  samaah.
Raajanamanuvartante  yathaa raajaa tathaa prajaah.

Raagy.   Kings,  Rulers of countries.   Dharmini =observer of
Religious austerity.    Dharmishthaa =  religious minded.    Paape=
Sinful, wicked .      Paapaah =  sinful , wicked.    Samey=  same.
Samaah = equal, matching.    Rajaanamanuvartante =  raajaanam +
anuvartante.   Raajanam =  kings.    Anuvartante=  follow up.
Yathaa = than (for comparison),for instance.   Tathaa =accordingly.
Prajaa = the citizens, subjects.

If the King of a Country (rulers in the present times) observes Religious
austerity, then its subjects are also religious minded and peaceful. If the
King is wicked then the citizens are also wicked and sinful . If the king
is simple the citizens are also the same i.e. they follow the example of
their king (or rulers).   That is why it is rightly said that the citizens  of a
Country follow the example set before them by the King.

(The truth behind this Subhashita can be seen in many countries of West
Asia and Africa, where the rulers are cruel and wicked  and so also the
citizens of these countries where there is lawlessness every where.)

Today's Subhashita .

Yasya  sneho  bhayam  tasya   sneho  duhkasya  Bhaajanam.
Sneha moolaani  duhkhaani  taani  tyakttvaa   Vaset  Sukham.

partaker of.     Moolaani = root cause.    Duhkhaani = sorrows.
Taani = them .   Tyaktvaa= having abandoned.    Baset=  live.
Sukham = happiness.

i.e.     A person who has attachment and fondness towards a person
or a thing, is also fearful of  some calamity befalling on him. Thus
attachment is the root cause of all sorrows and it is advisable that
one should abandon such attachment and live happily thereafter.

Naahaaram  chintayetpraagyam  dharmameka hi  chintayet.
Aahaaro  hi  manushyaram  janmanaa saha  jaayate.

Aahaaro=  food.    Manushyaanaam = among human beings.
Janmanaa= from birth.    Saha = with.   Jaayate = happens.

i.e.    Wise men should not bother about their food and should
think about  maintaining Religious austerity,  because Nature
provides food for all living beings right from the time they are
born.

Aho vat  vichitraani  charitaani  mahaatmanaam.
Lakshameem  trunaaya  manyante  tadbhaarena namanti cha.

Aho =  Oh !    Vat =alas  !     Vichitraani = strange, surprising.
Charitaani =  actions, deeds.        Mahaatmanaam = great and
noble persons.     Lakshmim = wealth.    Trunaaya = like a
blade of   rass.    Manyante = treat as a.    Tat + bhaarena
Tat = that, its.    Bhaarena =  weight .    Namanti = bow down.
Cha = and.

i.e.     Oh !   how strange and surprising are the actions of great
and noble persons !  They consider the wealth  insignificant like
a blade of grass, and if they possess it they treat their wealth as a
burden and remain unattached to it and continue to remain noble
persons.

Gatey  shoko  na  kartavyo  bhavishyam  naiva  chintayet.

will happen in future,  Wise and  experienced persons  live
life as per the demands of  present prevailing conditions.

Today's Subhashita.

Jalabindunipaatena  kramashah  pooryate  ghatah.
Sa  hetuh  sarvavidyaanaam  dharm asya cha dhanasya cha.

Jalabindu = drops of water.   Nipaatena = by falling of.

an earthen pitcher for storing water.    Sa = it.,  that.

various disciplines of learning, Religious austerity and wealth
are also acquired gradually.
