निर्गुणेष्वपि सत्वेषु दयां कुर्वन्ति साधवः |
नहि संहरते ज्योत्स्नां चन्द्रश्चाण्डालवेश्मनि ||
अर्थ - गुणवान और सात्विक प्रकृति के व्यक्ति गुणहीन और निम्नतम श्रेणी के प्राणिमात्र के प्रति भी उसी प्रकार दया भाव रखते हैं जिस प्रकार कि चन्द्रमा अपने प्रकाश से एक चाण्डाल के घर को भी वञ्चित नहीं करता है (सब के प्रति सम भाव रखता है ) |

Nahi samharate jyotsnaam chandrashchaandaalvedshmani .
Nirguneshvapi = Nirguneshu + api. Nirguneshu = having no qualities, Satveshu = living beings
Dayaam = pity, mercy. Kurvant = do. Saadhavah = noble and righteous persons..
Nahi = not at all. Samharate = restraints, deprives. destroys. Jyotsnaa = light., moonlit night.
Chandrashchchaandaalaveshmani = Chandrah +chandaal +veshmani.. Chandrah = the Moon.
Chaandaal = an outcast person, pariah. Veshmani = residence,abode.
i.e. Noble and righteous persons are always merciful even towards all living beings having no qualities or status, just like the Moon which does not deprive the abode of an outcast Chaandaal of its moonshine.
(In ancient times and still now Indian society is divided into four categories i.e. Brahmin, kshatriya, vaishya and shoodra, the last one being the lowest being assigned the low and menial trades. Among the shoodras,Chandaals were assigned the duty of cremating dead persons and were considered as untouchables.)
