अचला कमला कस्य कस्य मित्रं महीपतिः |
शरीरं च स्थिरं कस्य कस्य वश्या वराङ्गना ||
अर्थ - क्या इस संसार में धन संपत्ति की अधिष्ठात्री महालक्ष्मी किसी व्यक्ति के पास स्थिर रही है और क्या राजा (शासक) सदैव किसी का मित्र रहा है ? शरीर सौष्ठव किस व्यक्ति का स्थिर रहा है और एक अत्यधिक रूपवती स्त्री क्या किसी व्यक्ति की आज्ञाकारिणी रही है ?
( धन संपत्ति की अधिष्ठात्री कमला (लक्ष्मी) को चञ्चला भी कहते हैं क्योंकि वह् सदैव किसी पर कृपा नहीं करती है और जिस प्रकार किसी को अचानक धनवान बना देती है उसी प्रकार कंगाल भी बना देती है | इसी प्रकार मानव शरीर भी नाशवान है | राजाओं की मित्रता भी उनकी सनक पर निर्भर रहती है | अत्यन्त रूपवती स्त्रियां अपने रूप के गर्व के कारण आज्ञाकारी नहीं होती हैं | इस सुभाषित में इसी तथ्य को प्रतिपादित किया गया है | )

Shareeram cha sthiram kasya kasya vashyaa varangana
Achalaa = steady, immobile. Kamala = Lakshmi,the goddess of wealth. (wealth personified)
Kasya = whose . Mitram = friend. Maheepatih = King. Shareeram = human body.
Cha = and. Sthiram = stable, permanent. Vashyaa = obedient and dutiful wife.
Varangana = a beautiful woman
i.e. In this World has any body enjoyed permanent blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, and who has enjoyed permanent friendship of a King ? Has any body enjoyed a permanently healthy physique and has a very beautiful woman ever remained obedient and faithful ?
(Lakshmi (another name as Kamala) the Goddess of wealth is termed as 'Chanchala' i.e. very fickle minded , She does not favour a person permanently and again makes him a pauper . Similarly youth is also perishable , the friendship with kings is dependent on their whims and is never permanent and so also very beautiful women are never docile and submissive. This Subhashita has dealt with the facts in a questioning way.)
