आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

एकमेव  पुरस्कृत्य  दश  जीवन्ति  मानावाः |
विना तेन न शोभन्ते यथा संख्याङ्कबिन्दवः || = महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -     यदि किसी एक व्यक्ति को पुरस्कृत किया जाता है तो
उसके परिणाम स्वरूप दस और लोग (जो उसके ऊपर आश्रित होते
हैं ) भी अच्छा जीवन जीते हैं  और  विना पुरस्कृत व्यक्ति की संगति
के उसी प्रकार शोभित नहीं होते हैं  जिस प्रकार कि अनेक  शून्य अंकों
का कोई महत्त्व नहीं होता है |

(गणित मे शून्य संख्या का तब तक कोई मूल्य नहीं होता है जब् तक कि
 उसकेआगे १ से ९ तक की संख्याएं न लगी हो |  ऐसा करने से उस संख्या
के मूल्य मे दसगुनी वृद्धि हो जाती है |  इसे तथ्य को एक उपमा के रूप मे
इस सुभाषित में प्रयुक्त किया गया है कि पुरस्कृत व्यक्ति  के  अतिरिक्त
उसके आश्रित व्यक्ति भी पुरस्कार में सहभागी होते हैं |)

Ekameva puraskrutya dash jeevanti maanaavaah .
Vina tena na shobhante yathaa smkhyaankabindavah.

Ekameva = ekam + eva.      Ekam = one.        Eva = really,
Puraskrutya on being rewarded.   Dash = ten.     Jeevanti=
live.     Naanavaah =  persons.  Vina = without.  Tena = that  
Na = not.   Shobhante= beautified.   Yathaa = for instance.
Smkhyaankabindavah= cyphers (zeroes).

i.e.     Whenever a person is rewarded, besides him ten more
persons ( who may be dependent on him ) live a comfortable
life.    Without the person who is rewarded they are just like
cyphers without any value.

(In Mathematics thr value of  zero is nil until a digit from 1 to
9 is placed before it, which increases the value of the latter digit
ten times.  This fact has been used in this Subhashita as a simile
to emphasise that besides the person who is rewarded many
other persons share the honour and benefit received by him.)
