आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

एकेनापि  गुणेनाहो  स्प्रहणीयो  नरो  भवेत् |
कलामृत्येन रुचिरश्चन्द्रो दोषाकरोSपि  सन्  || - महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -    अहो ! यदि किसी व्यक्ति में एक भी गुण हो तो  वह् समाज
में वैसे ही स्प्रहणीय (ईर्ष्या मिश्रित प्रसंशा ) होता है जैसे कि आकर्षक
तथा प्रकाशयुक्त चन्द्रमा कृष्णपक्ष मे अपनी कलाओं केनष्ट होने के
दोष के रहते हुए भी स्प्रहणीय ही रहता है |

(कृष्णपक्ष में क्रमशः प्रतिदिन एक कला कम  हो कर अमायस्या
के दिन चन्द्रमा आकाश में अदृश्य हो जाता है | इसे चन्द्रमा का
यदि एक दोष भी माना जाय तो भी अपने आकाश को प्रकाशित
करने  के गुण के कारण वह सर्वत्र वन्द्य ही  होता है | ऐसा ही एक
गुणवान व्यक्ति के मामले में होता है | )

Ekanaapi gunenaaho sprahaneeyo naro bhavet.
Kalamrutyena ruchirashchandro doshakaropi san.

Ekenaapi =   ekena + api,    Ekena = one.    Api = even,
Gunenaaho = gunena + aho,     Gunena = by having a quality.
Aho = Oh  !    Sprahaneeyo =   enviable,  to be longed for.
Narro = a person.     Bhavet = becomes.    Kalamrutyena=
kala + mrutyena.      Kala =a phase of the Moon (which
increases or decreases by one phase per day in each
fortningh termed as waxing and waning of the Moon)
Mrutyena = reference to reduction in the size of the Moon
during its waning fortnight.     Rucharishchandro = ruchirah +
Chandro.     Ruchirah = brilliant, charming.   Chandro = the
Moon.      Doshakarop = doshakaro + api.     Doshakaro =
causing harm,  defective.     San = being.

i.e.    Oh !  if a person has even a single virtue,, he is appreciated
and envied in society just like the beautiful and shining Moon,
which, in spite of its defect of losing its phases one by one during
its waning period, is still appreciated and envied
