मनीषिणः सन्ति न ते हितैषिणः हितैषिणः सन्ति न् ते मनीषिणः |
सुहृच्च विद्वानपि दुर्लभो नृणां यथौषधं स्वादु च दुर्लभं ||
भावार्थ - जो व्यक्ति विद्वान होते हैं उनमें जनसामान्य की सहायता
करने की भावना का अभाव होता है तथा जो व्यक्ति सदैव दूसरों की
सहायता के लिये सदैव तत्पर रहते हैं वे विद्वान नहीं होते हैं | परन्तु ऐसे
व्यक्ति जो दयालु होने के साथ विद्वान भी हों उसी प्रकार दुर्लभ होते हैं
जिस प्रकार स्वादिष्ट परन्तु प्रभावशाली औषधि बहुत ही दुर्लभ होती है |

Suhruccha vidvaanapi durlabho nrunaam . Yathaushadham svaadu cha durlabahm.
Maneeshinah = learned and devout persons. Santi = are. Na = not. Tey = they.
Hiteshinah = well wishers. Suhruccha = suhrud + cha. Suhrud = kind hearted.
Cha = and. Vidvaanapi= vidvaan + api. Vidvaan = learned person. Api = even.
Durlabho = rare. Nrunaam = among people. Yathaushadham = yathaa + aushadham
Yathaa = as, for instance. Aushadham = medicine. Svaadu = delicious.
i.e. Learned and devout persons are not much helpful to others, and those who
are helpful to others are generally not learned persons. Persons who are both kind
and learned are very rare in society just like an effective but palatable medicine is
also rarely available,
