Ekenaapi sudheerena sotsaahena ranam prati.
Sotsaaham jaayate sainyam bhagne bhangmavaapnuyaat.
Ekenaapi = ekena + api. Ekena = one only. Api = even.
Sudheerena = by a very firm and resolute person Sotsaahena=
by the zeal and enthusiasm. ranam = a battle. Prati = towards.
Sotsaaham = zeal and enthusiasm. Jaayate = happen, produced.
Sainyam = the army. Bhagne = on being destroyed,
Bhangamavaapnuyaat = bhangam +avaapnuyaat. Bhangam =
breaaking, defeat. Avaapnuyaat = may suffer.
i.e. If there is even one person in an army, who is very firm
and resolute, full of zeal and enthusiasm for winning in a battle,
he is successful in creating similar zeal and enthusiasm in the army.
In the absence of such zeal there is every likelihood of the army
suffering a defeat.
(In this Subhashita the basic qualities of the commander of an army
have been described, which in turn enthuse the will to fight and win
among the soldiers.)
