आज का सुभाषित /Today's Subhashita.

यदि  नात्मनि  पुत्रेषु  न चेत्पुत्रेषु  नप्तृषु  |
न  त्वेव  तु  कृतोSधर्मः कर्तुर्भवति निष्फलः  ||
                                     - मनुस्मृति (४/१७३)

भावार्थ -     यदि पाप करने  वाले को उसका फल नहीं मिलेगा
तो उसके पुत्र को , और यदि पुत्र को नहीं मिलेगा तो उसके पौत्र
(पुत्र का पुत्र) को तो अवश्य ही मिलेगा  क्यों कि पापकर्म  का
प्रतिफल  कभी निष्फल नहीं जाता | वह वंश  में किसी न किसी
को अवश्य  मिलता है |

(प्रायः यह देखने में आता है कि वर्तमान पीढी के सदस्य सदाचारी
होने पर भी अत्यन्त कष्टमय जीवन व्यतीत करते हैं | इस का कारण
उपर्युक्त सुभाषित में व्यक्त  किया गया है कि वे अपने पूर्वजों  द्वारा
किये गये पापकर्मों का भोग करने के लिये अभिशप्त हैं | )

Yadi naatmani putreshu na chetputreshu naptrushu.
Na tveva tu krutodharmah karturbhavati nishphalah.

Yadi = if.    Naatmani = na + aatmani.   Na = not.    Atmani= self.
Putreshu = sons.     Chetputreshu =  chet + putreshu.     Chet= if.
Naptrushu=grandsons.  Tveva =tu+ eva.    Tu =but.   Eva=really.
Krutodharmah =  kruto + adharmah.    Kruto = having done.
Adharmah = unrighteousness.    Karturbhavati = kartuh + bhavati.
Kartuh = to do.     Bhavati = becomes.    Nishphalah = useless.

i.e.     If the person who has indulged in sinful deeds does not  face
the consequences thereof,  his son or  even his grandson will have
to suffer, because the penalty for the sinful deeds has to be borne
by someone in the  family dynasty.

(It is a common phenomenon that although the descendants of a
cruel and sinful person may lead a virtuous life, they still have to
face  hardships in their life. The above Subhashita explains as to
who they are doomed to bear the consequences of the wrong doings
of their ancestors.)
