आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashitdrua.

गणिका गणकौ  समानधर्मौ  निज पञ्चाSङ्गनिदर्शकावुभौ  |
जनमानसमोहकारिणौ तौ विधिना वित्तहरौ विनिर्मितौ       ||

भावार्थ -  एक वेश्या और एक ज्योतिषी दोनों की आजीविका में समानता
है | दोनों उसके लिये अपने अपने पञ्चाङ्गों  का उपयोग करते हैं | वे दोनों
जनता को अपनी चतुराई  और कला से विमोहित करते हैं और विधाता ने
उन्हें लोगों का धन हरण करने के लिये  ही निर्मित किया है |

(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित 'कुगणक निन्दा ' शीर्षक के अन्तर्गत संकलित है | इस
में 'पञ्चाङ्ग' शब्द द्विअर्थक रूप में प्रयुक्त किया गया है | ज्योतिषी जिस
पञ्जिका का उपयोग करते हैं उसमें समय की गणना के पांच प्रमुख अंगों
तिथि , वार, नक्षत्र ,करण तथा योग का वर्णन होता है |अतः उसे पञ्चाङ्ग्
कहते हैं | एक गणिका अपने नेत्रों , केशों, मुख आदि के  प्रदर्शन द्वारा अपने
ग्राहक को संमोहित कर उसका धन हरण करती है |  एक कुगणक  की तुलना
एक वेश्या से इस लिये की गई है कि ऐसे गणक  भी बुरी दशा का भय दिखा
कर लोगों  का धन हरण करते हैं |)

Ganikaa ganikau  samaanadharmaa nija panchaangnidarshakaavuhau.
Janamaanasamohakaarinau tau vidhinaa vittaharau vinirmitau.

Ganikaa = a prostitute.   Ganakau = an astrloger.   Samanadharmau =
having a similar profession.  Nija = one's own.    Panchaang = (i)  an
almanac. (ii) five parts of the body used to attract people   Darshakaa =
viewers. Ubhau =both.   Janamaanasa = minds of the general public. 
Sammohakaarinau = bewitching and fascinating.     Tau = they. 
Vidhinaa = by the Destiny.   Vittaharau = taking away money.   Vinirmitau=
created, made.

i.e.   There is similarity between the profession of a prostitute and an
astrologer.  Both of them use their 'five faculties' to entice and bewitch
their customers.  Destiny has created them just for taking away the wealth
of people.

(This Subhashita is classified as ' censureing the bad astrologer.'  An
astrologer uses an almanac which is called a 'Panchang' which shows the
five elements of time namely  day, tithi, nakshatra yoga and karana
(celestial positions) with the help of which he gives his so called predictions
and extracts money from his customers. Similarly a prostitute also depends
upon her physical charm to entice her customers .  A cunning  astrologer has
thus been compared to a prostitute.)
