आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

अहो महत्त्वं महतामपूर्वं विपत्तिकालेSपि  परोपकारः             |
यथाSSस्यमध्ये पतितोSपि राहोः कलानिधिः पुण्यचयं  ददाति ||
                                               -सुभाषित रत्नाकर (सभातरंग )

भावार्थ -   अहो ! सज्जन और  महान व्यक्ति भी कितने अद्वितीय होते हैं  कि
उन के ऊपर विपत्ति आने पर भी वे परोपकार करना उसी प्रकार नहीं छोडते हैं
जैसे कि राहु द्वारा चन्द्रमा को ग्रसित ( आच्छादित) कर देने पर भी चन्द्रमा अपनी
पवित्रता और परोपकार की भावना का त्याग नहीं करता है और समस्त संसार को
पुनः प्रकाशित करता रहता है |

(प्रस्तुत सुभाषित में सज्जन और परोपकारी व्यक्तियों की तुलना चन्द्रमा से की
गयी है जो कि चन्द्रग्रहण होने पर भी  पुनः अपनी किरणों से समस्त संसार को
प्रकाशित करता रहता है | )

Aho mahattvam mahataamapoorvam vipattikalepi paropakaarah.
Yathaasyamadhye patitopi raahoh kalaanidhih punyachayam dadaati.

Aho =  Oh !    Mahattvam = moral greatness.   Mahatamapoorvam=
Mahataam + apoorvam.    Mahataam =  noble and righteous persons.
Apoorvam = unique.   Vipattikaalepi= vipatti + kaale + api.   Vipatti=
calamity.       Kale = at the time of.      Api = even.      Paropakaarah=
benevolent deeds.           Yathaasyamadhye = yathaa +asya+madhye
Yathaa =for instance.   Asya = this, its.   Madhye = in the middle of.
Patitopi = patito + api.    Patito = fallen.    Raaho = Dragon's head
(An astrological phenomenon causing eclips of the Moon.)  Kalaanidhi=
the Moon.   Punyachayam = virtuousity and righteousness.   Dadaati=
gives, grants.

i.e.    Oh !  how unique and great are the noble and righteous persons,
who, even while facing a calamity do not hesitate to do benevolent
deeds  just like the Moon who  even being eclipsed by Rahu (Dragon's
head) continues to brighten the Universe .

(In this Subhashita noble and righteous persons have been praised by using
the simile of the Moon and its eclipse for noble persons facing a calamity,
who, still continue to do benevolent deeds.)
