नहि भवति वियोगः स्नेहविच्छेदहेतु -
र्जगति गुणनिधीनां सज्जनानां कदाचित् |
घनतिमिरनिबद्धो दूरसंस्थोSपि चन्द्रः
किमु कुमुदवनानां प्रेमभङ्गं करोति || -सुभाषित रत्नाकर (स्फुट)
भावार्थ - इस संसार में सज्जन और गुणवान व्यक्तियों का आपस में
किसी कारण वश वियोग होने के फलस्वरूप उनके बीच में प्रेम की
भावना कभी भी समाप्त नहीं होती है , उदाहरणार्थ अत्यन्त दूरी पर
स्थित और घोर अन्धकार में घिरा हुआ होने पर भी चन्द्रमा और रात्रि में ही
विकसित होनेवाले कुमुद पुष्पों के वनों का आपसी प्रेम क्या समाप्त हो
जाता है ? नहीं, कभी नहीं |
(चन्द्रमा के प्रकाश में रात्रि में ही खिलने वाले कुमुद पुष्पों की उपमा के
द्वारा इस सुभाषित में यही प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि सज्जन और
गुणवान व्यक्तियों की मित्रता चिरस्थायी होती है और किसी कारण वश
आपस में वियोग होने मात्र से समाप्त नहीं होती है |)
किसी कारण वश वियोग होने के फलस्वरूप उनके बीच में प्रेम की

Nahi = not at all. Bhavati = happens. Viyogah = separation.
Sneha = affection. Viccheda = cessation, end. Hetuh =reason.
Jagati = the World. Gunanidheenaam =excellent and virtuous
men. Sajjanaanaam = noble persons. Kadaachit = some times.
Ghana = dense. Timira = darkness. Nibaddho =confined to.
Doorasmsthopi = doorasansstho + api. Doorasanstho = situated
far off. Api =even. Chandraah =the Moon. Kimu =of what ?
kumuda=a variety of lotus flowers blooming in the night,
Vanaanaam = a cluster of. Prem = love . Bhangam = breach of .
karoti = causes to.
i.e. In this World friendship among noble and virtuous persons
does not end due to their separation for any reason, e.g. if the Moon
staying far away in the sky is confined into pitch darkness, can it
result in cessation of friendship between a cluster of lotus flowers
blooming only during the night ? Not at all.
(A variety of lotus flowers blooms only in the night. Through the
simile of Lotus flowers and the Moon, the author of the above
Subhashita has emphasised that the friendship among noble and
virtuous persons is not affected by any temporary separation among
them )
