एकाकिनो तपो द्वाभ्यां पठनं गायनं त्रिभिः |
चतुर्भिर्गमनं क्षेत्रं पञ्चाभिर्बहुभि: रणे ||
भावार्थ - तपस्या अकेले ही की जाती है , विद्याध्ययन के लिये
दो व्यक्ति (गुरु और शिष्य) आवश्यक होते हैं | गायन के लिये
तीन व्यक्तियों (गायक, संगति करने वाला और श्रोता ) अवश्य
होने चाहिये | किसी क्षेत्र में भ्रमण करने के लिये कम से कम चार
व्यक्ति होने चाहिये तथा किसी लडाई में पांच या उससे अधिक
व्यक्ति अवश्य होने चाहिये |
Ekaakino tapo dvaabhyaam pathanam gaayanam tribhih.
Chaturbhirgamanam kshetrpanchaabhirvahubheeh ranah.
Ekaakino =solely, alone. Tapo =asceticism. Dvaabhyaam =
by two persons. Pathanam =studying. Gayaanam=singing.
Tribhih = three persons. Chaturbhirgamanam = chaturbhih +
gamanam. Chaturbhih = by four persons. Gamanam =
going to. Kshetram = region. Panchaabhirbahubhih =
Panchaabhih + bahubhih. Panchaabhih = five persons.
Bahubhih = too many. Rane = during a battle.
i.e. Asceticism is to be practiced alone by a person, and for
studying at least two persons (teacher and the student) are
essential. For singing at least three persons (the singer, the
accompanist and the listener) are required , and for a tour of a
region at least four persons should be there. For participating
in a battle at least five or many more persons are required.
